Job Summary

The primary purpose of the Environmental Services Worker position is to perform tasks to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and attractive environment in the Rowan-Virtua SOM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform proper cleaning to ensure cleanliness of assigned areas.
• Conduct routine and general cleaning to prevent infection spread and keep areas orderly and attractive.
• Follow isolation cleaning procedures as instructed to prevent infection spread.
• Perform hard floor care and carpet care at various levels.
• Provide moving services throughout the University.
• Collect, store, and dispose of waste generated within the University daily.
• Complete grounds cleaning tasks.
• Perform snow removal tasks.
• Operate University vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain a clean uniform appearance.
• Conduct final check and clean-up at end of shift.
• Maintain workflow within team settings and communicate effectively with team members.
• Assist supervisor with training of workers.
• Lead shift when supervisor is absent to ensure completion of work and projects.
• Report deficiencies within the department and University promptly.
• Maintain a positive attitude toward workers and customers.
• Adhere to Rowan-Virtua SOM’s compliance standards, including the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
• Perform functional setups as requested.
• Interact respectfully with persons of all ages in a diverse environment.
• Follow legacy attendance policies of UMDNJ and the Environmental Services Department.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties. Prior experience in institutional environmental services preferred. Valid New Jersey driver’s license required.

Physical Demands

The position requires physical activity including standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and other physical tasks as described.

Work Environment

Exposure to wet or humid conditions, bloodborne pathogens, dust, fumes, chemicals, outdoor weather, mechanical parts, and noise. Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required.

Salary and Benefits

Starting at $18.68/hour during probation, increasing to $19.29/hour after six months. Benefits include health, dental, retirement, paid holidays, and tuition reimbursement for employees and eligible dependents.
