Job summary

RES, a leading environmental firm, seeks a Scientist V to provide expert leadership in wetlands, soils, water quality, and related fields. You’ll guide internal teams, clients, and regulators with deep scientific insight and drive ecological outcomes.

You will mentor junior scientists, shape data collection protocols, and influence how restoration projects are executed across multiple states, contributing to RES’s thought leadership.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in environmental science, or 13+ with an advanced degree.
• Bachelor’s degree in natural or physical sciences (required).
• Expertise in wetlands, soils, water quality, stream morphology, ecology, biology, or geology.
• Deep understanding of regional regulatory requirements and permitting processes.
• Strong experience in functional assessments and field/lab data analysis.
• Advanced knowledge of GIS and environmental mapping.
• Proficient in scientific software and field equipment (YSI meters, GPS, turbidimeters, etc.)
• Skilled in project planning, budgeting, staffing, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead field visits with client and agency teams to discuss data collection goals and review field methodologies.
• Review junior scientists’ functional assessment reports and coach on technical content and storytelling.
• Coordinate staffing needs for multi-state projects with project managers.
• Draft talking points for conference panels to represent RES as a thought leader.
