Job summary

Salt River Project (SRP) seeks an on-site environmental lead to manage air, water, and waste regulatory requirements across SRP Generating Stations in Arizona. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local rules and coordinate reporting, audits, and liaison activities with regulators.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2–5+ years of environmental experience, with strong knowledge of Title V, NPDES, and permit reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Experience level: Associate, Journey, Senior as described.
  • Ability to travel to supplier facilities and SRP sites.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Monitor air emissions and support permit reporting for local counties and ADEQ.
  • Oversee waste, water, stormwater management, and NPDES permitting compliance.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Lead internal environmental audits and coordinate with SRP stations and regulators.
  • Develop and maintain environmental compliance programs and training.
  • Promote environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives.

Summary

This role is responsible for managing air, water, and waste regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will serve as the Generating Station’s on-site environmental lead, supporting safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible plant operations.

What You'll Do
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including air quality, water discharge, and waste management requirements.
  • Monitor and manage air emissions, including CEMS (Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems), and support permit reporting for Pinal County and ADEQ.
  • Oversee waste, water, stormwater management, and NPDES permitting compliance, including regular inspections and sampling.
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams in accordance with applicable standards, ensuring proper documentation and disposal.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate environmental reports to regulatory agencies, including Title V reporting.
  • Lead internal environmental audits and support third-party or agency inspections.
  • Develop and maintain environmental compliance programs, including training for plant staff on best practices and regulatory updates.
  • Act as the primary environmental liaison for several SRP Generating Stations, coordinating with regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in incident investigations and support root cause analysis for environmental events or permit deviations.
  • Track and interpret regulatory changes and assess impacts on plant operations, recommending necessary actions or changes.
  • Support plant operations and maintenance teams with environmental permitting for equipment changes or upgrades.
  • Maintain environmental records and data systems to ensure compliance and readiness for audits or inspections.
  • Promote environmental stewardship and continuous improvement through sustainability initiatives and proactive compliance strategies.
  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties.
  • Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and accurately and legibly complete applicable paperwork.
  • May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education

A bachelor's degree relevant to the assignment from an accredited institution is required.

Experience

This position may be filled at one of three levels outlined below, based on the candidate’s relevant experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and competencies. Level 1 – Associate: Requires up to two (2) years of relevant experience. Level 2 – Journey: Requires a minimum of two (2) years and less than five (5) years of relevant experience. Level 3 – Senior: Requires five (5) or more years of relevant experience. Eligibility for advancement (progression) to the next level in the same role is based on overall job performance, mastery of all functional responsibilities, and time in position, as assessed by the supervisor.

Additional Requirements and Qualifications
  • Responsibly manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Provide information, answers, and responsible solutions to support the reliable operation of the generating station.
  • Represent SRP when contacting customers and outside agencies.
  • Write specifications for contract with suppliers of equipment and services.
  • Occasionally travel to suppliers facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities.
  • Work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP.
  • Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, test equipment, etc.).
  • Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver's license

Not A Hybrid Workplace

This position is 100% on site. Hybrid/Telework is not available.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
