Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced component environmental qualification engineer to join our Nuclear Power Group in the United States. You will collaborate with engineers across disciplines and guide junior team members on projects involving license renewals, equipment qualification and design support for nuclear plants.

The role requires 5+ years in component environmental qualification, familiarity with 10CFR 50.49 and IEEE standards, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • 5+ years of experience in component environmental qualification activities in the nuclear power plant industry.
  • Knowledge of nuclear power plant equipment functionality, materials of construction, failure modes, etc.
  • Familiarity with NRC IE Notices, Bulletins, Generic Letters.
  • Familiarity with industry 10CFR Part 50.49, Regulatory Guides, IEEE 323 and other IEEE Standards relevant to environmental qualification.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and guide less experienced team members.
  • Work on license renewals and upgrades/modifications for nuclear plants.
  • Prepare and review calculations and qualification reports; develop specifications.
  • Review client design basis documents and support EQ inquiries.
  • Perform environmental qualification life assessments using Arrhenius method and update related documents.
  • Review maintenance and surveillance requirements and assess post-accident effects on EQ equipment.
  • Travel to client/vendor offices for design reviews and site verifications when needed.

Job description

Responsibilities

This is an engineering position that offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in component qualification engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity to advance your career. You will collaborate with a team including other component qualification engineers, interface with engineers from other disciplines, and guide the work of less experienced project team members.

You will work with an engineering team on projects for license renewals and upgrades/modifications to nuclear power plants in the following areas:

  • This position will offer you the ability to directly apply your knowledge of component environmental qualification for 10CFR 50.49 equipment.
  • As a member of an engineering team, you will work on a wide range of projects for various clients. You will prepare and review calculations, review qualification reports from vendors, develop specifications, revise client design basis documents and support EQ-related inquiries from clients.
  • Perform Environmental Qualification qualified life assessments using the Arrhenius method and updates to other qualification documentation
  • Review of Maintenance and Surveillance requirements
  • EPU and postulated accident effects on equipment
  • Radiation dose effects on EQ equipment due to fuel and fuel cycle changes
  • There is the potential for travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in engineering degree with emphasis in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Five (5) or more years of experience related to component environmental qualification activities in the nuclear power plant industry
  • Knowledge of nuclear power plant equipment functionality, materials of construction, failure modes, etc.
  • Familiarity with NRC IE Notices, Bulletins, Generic Letters
  • Familiarity with industry DOR plant requirements, 10CFR Part 50.49, Regulatory Guides, IEEE 323 and other IEEE Standards applicable to environmental qualification.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Compensation Range

$84,762.21 - $129,497.82
