The successful candidate will be engaged in both opportunity/client development and project delivery. The position will require a candidate to work collaboratively with a diverse team of specialists and have the capacity to balance varying priorities. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure, which allows for a combination of both in-office and remote work. Periodic travel will be required (10-15%).

Role accountabilities

As a Senior Environmental Permitting Manager, the focus of your work will be to lead multidisciplinary site assessment, permitting, and environmental documentation service needs for various types of power projects. While a significant area of focus will be regulated utility generation and transmission projects, in this role you will also be engaged in permitting activities for other energy technologies (solar, co‑located power, and emerging generation). The ideal candidate will have significant experience and geographical familiarity with permitting of power sector projects and be able to assist clients with planning services for project development and execution of comprehensive permitting programs. Expertise with state and federal regulations associated with the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act are highly preferred. Additionally, you will provide senior‑level quality assurance/quality control for client deliverables and coordinate additional project services that may include stormwater and erosion control planning, cultural resources, floodplain assessments, and various civil engineering components. In this role, you will also be involved in supporting and/or managing the growth of new and existing client relationships in conjunction with business development and account leaders. This will include leveraging existing client relationships, supporting client account teams, and leading pursuits and proposal development. You will additionally participate in market‑facing events to increase Arcadis’ presence and profile.

Qualifications & Experience

Required qualifications for the role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, geology, water resources, or similar environmental discipline.
  • 10 years of total experience in the environmental consulting industry. Associated experience with environmental agencies and departmental roles with commercial entities may be considered equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience managing environmental permitting projects, technical teams, schedules/budgets, and the delivery of high-quality work products.
  • 2 years of experience leading project pursuits, including direct client communication and preparation of project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with Midwest federal, state, and local natural resource permitting agencies in the development of regulated utility and commercial development projects in the power sector.
  • Ability to lead the delivery of projects, ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management, and good communication and collaboration between multi‑disciplinary teams of scientists, planners, engineers, and other specialists.
  • Excellent technical writing and strategic problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with company leadership, staff, and client colleagues.
  • Involvement in client development and leadership, including the sourcing of project opportunities, participation in industry networking events, and direct client relationship building.
Preferred qualifications
  • Master’s degree in environmental science, urban planning, biology, ecology, geology, water resources, or similar discipline.
  • Prior experience with power utilities and/or commercial developers in the Midwest region.
