Job summary

ERM in Boston, MA seeks a Managing Consultant, Scientist to lead complex environmental permitting projects for infrastructure and energy initiatives. You will provide senior technical leadership, strategic permitting strategies, and regulatory navigation to ensure successful approvals while advancing sustainable outcomes.

In this high-impact role you will mentor field teams, coordinate multidisciplinary efforts, and support business development with clients and regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an environmental field.
• 4–6+ years of progressive environmental consulting or wetlands science experience.
• Experience managing environmental permitting programs for complex infrastructure projects.
• Extensive knowledge of wetland regulations and permitting processes.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary project teams within budget and schedule.
• Strong client relationship management and communication skills.
• High level of technical competence in environmental impact assessment practices.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental permitting efforts for infrastructure, energy, water, and public-sector projects.
• Prepare and manage permit applications, regulatory submissions, and supporting docs.
• Obtain environmental approvals and guide projects through regulatory processes.
• Mentor wetland delineations, ecological assessments, and field investigations as needed.
• Provide expertise on wetland restoration and coastal resource management.
• Evaluate project impacts on wetlands, waterways, and sensitive resources.
• Develop mitigation strategies and permitting approaches.
• Manage multiple projects from planning through permitting and construction support.
• Coordinate teams, schedules, budgets, and client communications.
• Develop scopes of work, proposals, and execution plans.
