Job summary

Langan Engineering & Environmental Services is seeking a Project Environmental Permitting & Compliance Engineer, or Scientist / Project Manager to join its team in New York City and the Greater New York area.

The role involves performing multimedia environmental permitting and compliance, including air quality permitting, modeling, audits, spill prevention plans, and waste management, with opportunities to collaborate across practice areas and advance professionally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or closely related field.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• PE or on track to obtain (FE/EIT) or CHMM preferred.
• 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare permit applications and compliance programs for air, wastewater, stormwater, and other media.
• Perform multi‑media environmental compliance audits and program reviews.
• Develop monitoring and spill prevention/contingency plans (SPCC, FRP, SWPPP).
• Oversee junior staff and manage project assignments.
• Lead proposals including scope and cost development.
• Manage project budgets and assist in invoicing.
• Engage with clients, contractors, and practice leaders to ensure responsiveness.
• Deliver multiple projects within budgets, schedules, and deadlines.
• Provide field support at client sites and collect samples.
• Mentor junior staff and perform other duties.
