Job summary

J.S. Held LLC in New Jersey seeks an experienced (Senior) Environmental Due Diligence Consultant to lead environmental due diligence, site investigations, and remediation initiatives for commercial, industrial, and real estate transactions across the state.

The candidate will work with Project Managers and LSRPs, growing client relationships and project scope while ensuring ASTM Phase I ESAs and NJDEP requirements are met with high-quality deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
• 3-5 years of experience performing environmental due diligence, site investigations, and remediation projects in New Jersey.
• Experience coordinating field activities, subcontractors, laboratories, and data management efforts.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage environmental due diligence projects for commercial, industrial, lending, and real estate transactions, including ASTM Phase I ESAs.
• Manage and execute environmental site investigations and remediation projects per NJDEP regulations.
• Serve as primary day-to-day contact for clients, providing technical guidance and project updates.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee field investigation and remediation activities (soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion).
• Evaluate environmental data and develop technically sound recommendations for clients and project teams.
• Prepare and review technical reports and regulatory submissions (PARs, SIRs, RIRs, RAWs, RARs, permits).
• Support project managers and LS RP in strategy, negotiations, and client meetings.
• Coordinate subcontractors, labs, drilling contractors, and other resources to meet schedule and budget.
• Manage multiple projects with high technical quality and client service.
• Support business development through proposals and client relationship management.
• Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance for delivery excellence.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, regulations, and quality procedures.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced (Senior)Environmental Due Diligence Consultant to join our New Jersey environmental team. The successful candidate will support and manage environmental due diligence, site investigation, and remediation projects for commercial, industrial, and transactional clients throughout New Jersey. This role is ideal for a professional with 3-5 years of experience who has developed strong technical expertise in ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, NJDEP site remediation requirements, and environmental transaction support.

The successful candidate will work directly with Project Managers and Licensed Site Remediation Professionals (LSRPs) while taking increasing ownership of client relationships, project execution, report preparation, and regulatory coordination.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead and manage environmental due diligence projects for commercial, industrial, lending, and real estate transactions, including the preparation and review of ASTM-compliant Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).
• Manage and execute environmental site investigations and remediation projects in accordance with NJDEP regulations and Technical Requirements for Site Remediation.
• Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for clients, providing technical guidance, project updates, and practical recommendations regarding environmental liabilities and risk management.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee field investigation and remediation activities, including soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion assessments.
• Evaluate environmental data, identify potential risks and regulatory obligations, and develop technically sound recommendations for clients and project teams.
• Prepare and review technical reports and regulatory submissions, including Preliminary Assessment Reports (PARs), Site Investigation Reports (SIRs), Remedial Investigation Reports (RIRs), Remedial Action Workplans (RAWs), Remedial Action Reports (RARs), and permit applications.
• Support Project Managers and Licensed Site Remediation Professionals (LSRPs) in project strategy, regulatory negotiations, and client-facing meetings.
• Coordinate subcontractors, laboratories, drilling contractors, and other project resources to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of technical quality, responsiveness, and client service.
• Support business development efforts through proposal preparation, client relationship management, networking, and identification of new project opportunities.
• Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance to support professional development and project delivery excellence.
• Ensure compliance with company health and safety policies, environmental regulations, and quality management procedures.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
• 3-5 years of experience performing environmental due diligence, site investigations, and remediation projects in New Jersey.
• Experience supporting environmental investigations and remediation projects, including soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion assessments.
• Working knowledge of key NJDEP deliverables, including PARs, SIRs, RIRs, RAWs, RARs, and permit applications.
• Experience coordinating field activities, subcontractors, laboratories, and data management efforts.
• Ability to evaluate environmental data and provide technical recommendations to Project Managers and LSRPs.
• Strong project management, organizational, and client communication skills.
• 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred

• Experience managing multiple due diligence and remediation projects simultaneously.
• Existing relationships with commercial real estate, legal, lending, or development clients.
• Professional Geologist (PG), Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP), or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) credentials, or progress toward obtaining professional licensure.
• Experience mentoring junior staff and supporting proposal development and business development initiatives.

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $65,000 - $95,000. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
