About the Role

Join our team as a Senior Environmental Designer and play a key role in creating immersive and sustainable experiences by leveraging architecture, interiors, lounges, and landscapes to transform spaces and engage audiences. They are responsible for designing the event environment and creating a memorable attendee experience that supports the overarching creative theme.

As a Senior Environmental Designer specializing in environmental and experiential design, you will develop visual communication solutions that enhance how people navigate, interact with, and experience built environments. Working across a variety of settings, including public and private spaces, exhibitions, and branded environments, you will create compelling graphic elements such as environmental graphics, wayfinding systems, branded installations, exhibition graphics, and other visual touchpoints that reinforce brand identity and communicate key messages. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will translate creative concepts into visually engaging and functional design solutions that enrich the overall user experience.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conceptualization and Ideation: Generate innovative and environmentally conscious design concepts for events, paying special attention to attendee flow, brand integration, and opportunities to surprise and delight.
  • Spatial Planning and Layout: Develop detailed event layouts and lounge arrangements, considering sustainability, functionality, accessibility, and aesthetic appeal. Utilize VectorWorks 3D modeling tools to create visual representations of event designs.
  • Environmental Graphics and Wayfinding: Design environmental graphics, signage, and wayfinding solutions that enhance navigation, reinforce event branding, and improve the overall attendee experience.
  • Material Selection and Sustainability: Research and recommend sustainable materials, finishes, and construction practices for event environments. Ensure designs align with environmental best practices and client sustainability goals.
  • Design Documentation and Specifications: Prepare detailed design plans, renderings, presentations, production specifications, and installation documentation to effectively communicate design intent and support project execution.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with project managers, event producers, architects, interior designers, fabricators, vendors, and other stakeholders to bring design concepts to life. Effectively communicate design ideas through presentations, visual aids, and project documentation.
  • Site Visits and Installation Oversight: Conduct site visits to assess design feasibility and provide on-site support during installation to ensure design intent, quality standards, and project objectives are achieved.
  • Efficient Project Organization: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, from concept through completion, ensuring timelines are met, budgets are adhered to, and deliverables are completed to a high standard.
  • Standards and Compliance: Ensure designs meet applicable accessibility, safety, and venue requirements while maintaining functionality and guest experience objectives.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, materials, and best practices in experiential, environmental, and event design to continuously enhance creative solutions.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Design, Graphic Design, or a related creative field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience as an Environmental Designer, preferably with experience in experiential, event, exhibit, environmental graphic, or branded environment design projects.
  • Proven experience with environmental graphics, wayfinding systems, signage, and visual communication within physical environments.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of event design, environmental design, and experiential design projects.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration abilities, with experience working effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-standard creative software and tools, including Adobe Creative Suite, VectorWorks, and 3D modeling/rendering software.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate concepts into engaging, functional, and memorable environments.
  • Deep understanding of industry tools, trends, materials, fabrication processes, and emerging design technologies.
  • Strong understanding of spatial design principles, attendee flow, environmental storytelling, and user experience within physical spaces.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices and environmentally responsible material selection.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, budgets, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to design accuracy, quality, and execution.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, ADA requirements, life safety considerations, and venue requirements applicable to event and environmental design.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting while working at a computer and performing design-related tasks.
  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers for keyboarding, mouse operation, and other computer-related activities.
  • Ability to view and analyze digital and printed materials, including detailed graphics, layouts, and text.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, video conference, and email.
