Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking an Advanced Software Engineer within the Information Technology division in New York. The role focuses on leading software development, testing, and risk management for critical systems, with opportunities to influence architecture and IT processes.

The position offers a blend of on-site and telework options, with standard business hours and a 9:00 am–5:30 pm schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS).
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Must possess at least one listed professional certification (e.g., CSD, CSM, CSDP, CSSLP, AWS Developer, Azure Developer, CSTP).

Responsibilities

• Leads requirements management, software engineering, system testing, and acceptance testing for complex software initiatives.
• Assists with selection, adaptation, and adoption of new models, methods, and tools; collaborates with product, systems or service design.
• Owns high-value services/products; defines and completes large projects within objectives and resource constraints, ensuring architecture alignment and proper change/release/risk/quality processes.
• Drafts and maintains software support processes; prioritizes, diagnoses incidents, performs root-cause analysis, and proposes corrective actions.
• Develops testing criteria and designs test cases for functional and non-functional requirements.
• Plans and leads user experience design activities for large programs, ensuring usability and accessibility.
• Maintains tools/documentation to track system information and audits complex software against standards.
• Oversees quality and safety assessments with cross-functional teams; advises assurance activities.
• Manages supplier relationships and contract terms to meet KPIs and resolve disputes.
• Continually updates knowledge of software engineering practices and emerging technologies.
• Provides technical guidance to project teams and mentors staff.
