Job summary

Kapitus is seeking a Principal Data & AI Governance Architect in Arlington, VA to design and operationalize its enterprise governance framework. You will lead policy, standards, and controls for data, analytics, and AI across the organization, partnering with risk, legal, IT, and product teams.

The role emphasizes enterprise framework design, operational delivery, and collaboration with platform teams to institutionalize governance practices and automated controls across data and AI lifecycles.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data governance or related data disciplines with enterprise impact.
• Experience building federated stewardship programs and governance operating models.
• Knowledge of glossary design, metadata, data cataloging, lineage, and certification.
• Familiarity with AI lifecycle governance and risk-based controls.

Responsibilities

• Architect and operationalize Kapitus’s enterprise Data Governance framework and cadences.
• Design a federated governance model for Business Data Owners and Technical Data Custodians.
• Codify standards, workflows, and decision records to reduce external consulting dependency.
• Establish governance for critical data assets, including metadata, lineage, contracts, and retention.
• Define enterprise Data Quality framework, rules, monitoring, and risk reporting.
• Partner with data teams to embed governance in data products and analytics processes.
• Serve as product owner for Atlan and related governance capabilities.
• Establish risk-based Model & AI Governance, including AI-enabled workflows and third-party services.
• Define model/AI lifecycle requirements, evidence, monitoring, and incident handling.
