Job summary

The State of Hawaii's Department of Transportation, Highways Division, is seeking Level V engineering‑support personnel. The role involves applying engineering principles to support professional activities and construction-related tasks in a government setting.

Under supervision, you will perform moderately difficult technical work, potentially lead a small team of engineering aids, and handle tasks across inspection, drafting, surveying and related functions as required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school, or equivalent, with courses in mathematics.
• Four (4) years of work experience in engineering‑oriented functions such as inspection, testing, designing, surveying, drafting, and construction, which required the knowledge of engineering terminology and the ability to use mathematical skills in the solution of engineering‑support or engineering problems.
• At least one (1) year of the required Engineering‑Support Experience must have been comparable to the Engineering Aid IV level, OR two (2) years of experience comparable to the Engineering Aid III level in the State government.
• Supervisory aptitude is required for positions that supervise, demonstrated through assignments or training.
• Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.
• A valid driver's license must be possessed at the time of appointment.
• Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) information is provided for awareness.

Responsibilities

• Perform moderately difficult sub‑professional, technical functions in support of higher level professional and/or sub‑professional engineering activities.
• Supervise and work with a small group of engineering aids performing work at the I to IV levels.
• Perform other duties as required.
• Apply knowledge of construction, operation and limitations of engineering systems, processes and materials.
