Apple Data Platform (ADP) brings together Apple Cloud Data Platform, Apple Cloud AI Services, and Apple Cloud Governance Platform to deliver data, AI, analytics, and governance capabilities at Apple scale.Within ADP, Managed Services provides the foundational infrastructure, services, and tooling required to deliver these capabilities as secure, reliable, scalable, and efficient managed services.We are looking for a highly technical Senior Engineering Manager to lead Platform Automation within ADP Managed Services. The team provides the common infrastructure and orchestration layer used by more than 40 ADP products and services.The mission is to build the platform automation foundation that enables ADP services to be deployed once and operated consistently across clouds, regions, and environments. This leader will set the long-term direction for the platform and lead a team of senior and staff engineers driving its evolution across AWS, Google Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, and future cloud environments.

Description

As the Senior Engineering Manager for Platform Automation, you will own the strategy and execution for ADP’s multi-cloud infrastructure automation platform.ADP service teams define how their services need to be deployed. Platform Automation turns those requirements into standardized, repeatable deployments across cloud providers, accounts, regions, clusters, and environments.The platform abstracts infrastructure complexity by automating Apple’s paved-path capabilities for cloud provisioning, Kubernetes, networking, identity, observability, security, configuration, capacity, and lifecycle management through certified infrastructure APIs and interfaces.You will evolve the platform from its current generations of automation toward a more unified, declarative, and future-ready architecture that simplifies service onboarding, improves portability and reliability, and ensures infrastructure never becomes a barrier to delivering ADP capabilities to customers.You will also shape how AI can transform the platform engineering experience—both by incorporating AI-powered capabilities that simplify how service teams onboard, deploy, and operate their services, and by using AI to accelerate the development, validation, troubleshooting, and operation of the platform itself.Infrastructure security will be a first-class part of your charter. You will set the direction for infrastructure security within ADP Managed Services and partner with Apple’s central security teams to ensure approved controls and capabilities are adopted rapidly and automated into the platform by default.You will also drive cost-conscious infrastructure decisions by design, partnering closely with ADP’s Platform Efficiency organization.This is a customer-facing platform leadership role. You will lead multiple technical workstreams and a team of senior and staff engineers, influence broadly across ADP and Apple infrastructure organizations, and establish the multi-year direction for the platform.

Minimum Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems, infrastructure platforms, cloud platforms, or related technologies.
• 5+ years of engineering management experience.
• Deep technical expertise in platform engineering, cloud-native infrastructure, distributed systems, and large-scale automation.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes and major public cloud platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure automation, declarative systems, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, deployment orchestration, and lifecycle management.
• Experience designing platform abstractions that simplify infrastructure consumption for product and service teams.
• Experience leading senior and staff engineers across multiple complex technical workstreams.
• Demonstrated ability to define long‑term technical strategy and drive execution across cross‑functional organizations.
• Strong understanding of production infrastructure, including reliability, observability, networking, identity, security, capacity, and operational readiness.
• Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and develop senior technical talent.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence both technical teams and senior leadership.
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or leading a large‑scale internal developer platform, infrastructure platform, cloud platform, or Platform‑as‑a‑Service.
• Experience designing declarative automation systems that translate service requirements into infrastructure and deployment configurations.
• Experience operating Kubernetes infrastructure across multiple clouds, regions, accounts, or environments.
• Experience with multi‑cloud architectures spanning AWS, Google Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, or other major cloud providers.
• Experience with Kubernetes operators and controllers, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and release automation.
• Experience supporting large‑scale data processing, analytics, machine learning, AI, or accelerated‑compute workloads.
• Experience defining and driving infrastructure security strategy in partnership with centralized security organizations.
• Strong understanding of secure‑by‑default and policy‑as‑code approaches.
• Experience designing cost‑conscious infrastructure platforms and embedding efficiency into shared platform capabilities.
• Experience setting and executing against a multi‑year platform or infrastructure strategy.
• Experience applying AI to developer platforms, infrastructure automation, operational workflows, or engineering productivity.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $237,600 and $401,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
