Job description

Postscript is the AI messaging platform trusted by 20,000+ Shopify brands — including Brooklinen, Ruggable, True Classic, and Dr. Squatch. We are on a mission to make SMS your number one revenue‑driving channel. Our best‑in‑class SMS marketing platform was built with revenue‑driving AI features that are not available on other platforms, and we’re just getting started. Backed by Greylock and Y Combinator, we have been fully remote since 2018.

Senior Engineering Manager for the Messaging Channels team at Postscript. You will lead a team of eight highly skilled product and platform engineers who own the messaging backbone that every Postscript product ships through. The team is responsible for Flow Builder (our automation product for orchestrating merchant journeys), the high‑volume SMS campaign send engine that powers many of the largest DTC brands, the messaging platform and infrastructure on which all other Postscript products are built, and expansion into new channels that reach merchants wherever their customers are. The team runs its own dedicated on‑call rotation and sets the bar for operational rigor at Postscript.

Engineering managers are directly responsible for day‑to‑day people management of their direct reports, focusing on leadership, people management, and delivery. The backend uses primarily Python within an AWS architecture, with select services in Go, backed by Kafka, Postgres, and MongoDB. The system evolves to meet the scalability and complexity demands of high‑volume messaging at e‑commerce scale.

This position is fully remote and based in the U.S. or Canada.

Primary Duties
  • Lead the team that owns Postscript’s messaging backbone: Flow Builder, the campaign send engine, the messaging platform that every Postscript product is built on, and expansion into additional channels
  • Drive reliability, throughput, and cost efficiency of a production system that handles Postscript‑scale messaging volume
  • Manage the Messaging Platform as an internal product, setting contracts, prioritization, and support expectations with engineering consumer teams across Postscript
  • Own the team’s dedicated on‑call rotation, including incident response, blameless postmortems, and continuous improvement of reliability posture
  • Collaborate with platform, AI, and integrations engineering teammates, product managers, business stakeholders, designers, and compliance partners to plan and execute work
  • Carry out performance‑management duties for your direct reports via just‑in‑time feedback, 1:1s, annual reviews, and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Consistently provide ongoing technical mentorship and general professional development for your direct reports and other engineers at Postscript
  • Establish and continually improve development, on‑call, and incident‑review processes that yield maximum efficiency and operational rigor in day‑to‑day engineering operations
  • Partner with and grow Staff Engineers and technical experts in the organization to develop technical roadmaps and complete technical initiatives that enable engineering efficiency, handle the growth of our platform’s scale, and improve velocity
  • Recruit and hire engineers on your team and on other teams, raise and advocate for new positions, and directly participate in the screening and evaluation of candidates
  • Lead and participate in culture initiatives that will help us create the best engineering organization in the world
What We’ll Love About You
  • A proven career directly managing engineers and developing top performers into principal engineers (ideally 4+ years of leadership experience)
  • Experience mentoring staff engineers and highly technical contributors
  • Experience leading teams that own high‑volume, business‑critical distributed systems such as messaging, payments, or similarly demanding delivery pipelines
  • Experience running an internal platform that other engineering teams depend on, including managing contracts, prioritization, and on‑call across consumer teams
  • Demonstrated excellence in recruiting and onboarding engineers
  • Clear passion for people, management, and enabling people to do their best work
  • Early‑stage / high‑growth SaaS experience
  • Led teams that have maintained critical infrastructure that internal and external developers build on
  • Introduced and maintained systems with a high level of observability (alerting, logging, monitoring, SLOs)
  • Led teams that support deeply embedded integrations with external e‑commerce platforms, carriers, or third‑party service providers
  • Comfortable supporting frontend engineering on a product surface like Flow Builder, even if your primary background is backend
  • Exposure to AI technologies (predictive and generative) and how they consume platform services is a plus
  • Demonstrated passion for delivering great products (martech SaaS or e‑commerce experience preferred)
What You’ll Love About Us
  • Salary range of USD $236,000–$268,000 base plus significant equity regardless of location
  • High‑growth startup. Plenty of room for you to directly impact the company and grow your career!
  • Remote team. Work from home (or wherever!)
  • Fun. We’re passionate and enjoy what we do
  • Competitive compensation and opportunity for equity
  • Flexible paid time off
  • Health, dental, vision insurance
  • Other great perks
