Job description

We’re on a mission to make SMS the number-one revenue channel for ecommerce merchants by delivering an easy-to-use platform where they can grow their subscriber list, develop and test their messaging strategy, deliver excellent customer service, and drive sales and loyalty—all in one place. We believe SMS is the most important marketing and sales channel of the decade, and that vision drives everything we do.

Postscript was founded in 2018 as a 100% remote organization. With more than 250 employees (and counting!), we’re backed by Greylock, Y Combinator, and other top investors.

As Engineering Manager for the Customer Data Platform team at Postscript, you will partner with the team’s Principal Engineer & Architect to manage a team of skilled product and data engineers building our CDP from the ground up as part of Postscript’s transformation into an agentic-first company.

Engineering Managers are directly responsible for day-to-day people management of their direct reports. They focus on leadership, people management, and delivery/execution duties. Our backend, primarily Python within an AWS architecture, is evolving to meet scalability and complexity demands. Your team will be responsible for building greenfield data platform capabilities necessary to power segmentation, targeting, and agentic experiences across Postscript’s product suite.

The ideal candidate has experience leading small to mid-size engineering teams building data-intensive products. They have a passion for data infrastructure, product engineering, and delivering great work that drives business value. The best candidates possess the ability to perform the duties of a technical contributor, project manager, and people manager on any given day and know when and how to switch between those hats as needed to achieve success for their team(s) and the overall company.

Primary duties
  • Lead a team of engineers building Postscript’s Customer Data Platform from the ground up
  • Collaborate with product managers, data science, business stakeholders, designers, and other engineering teams to plan and execute work
  • Carry out performance management duties for your direct reports via just in time feedback, 1:1s, annual reviews, and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Consistently provide ongoing technical mentorship and general professional development for your direct reports and other engineers at Postscript
  • Establish and continually improve development and team processes that yield maximum efficiency in day-to-day engineering operations
  • Partner with the Principal Engineer & Architect and other technical experts to develop technical roadmaps for data infrastructure, pipeline reliability, and platform scalability
  • Recruit and hire engineers on your team and on other teams, raise and advocate new positions on your team, and directly participate in the screening and evaluation of candidates
  • Lead and participate in culture initiatives that will help us create the best engineering organization in the world
What We’ll Love About You
  • A proven career directly managing engineers (ideally 3+ years of leadership experience).
  • Experience building and scaling data platforms, pipelines, or event-driven systems.
  • Comfortable partnering with highly technical senior ICs (Staff/Principal engineers) on architecture and technical direction.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT patterns, and real-time processing.
  • Demonstrated excellence in recruiting and onboarding engineers.
  • Clear passion for people, management, and enabling people to do their best work.
  • Early stage/high growth SaaS experience.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) including services like Kafka, Postgres, MongoDB, or similar.
  • Introduced and maintained systems with a high level of observability (alerting, logging, monitoring).
  • Lead teams that support deeply embedded integrations with external ecommerce and internal platform systems.
  • Demonstrated passion for delivering great products (martech SaaS or ecommerce experience preferred).
What You’ll Love About Us
  • Salary range of USD $203,000-$236,000 base plus significant equity regardless of location
  • High growth startup - plenty of room for you to directly impact the company and grow your career!
  • Remote team - work from home (or wherever!)
  • Fun - We’re passionate and enjoy what we do
  • Competitive compensation and opportunity for equity
