The Proprietary Platforms Software Engineering Department at Collins Aerospace designs, develops, and delivers secure, high‑performance software that enables mission success for proprietary aerospace and defense systems. We seek a Senior Engineering Manager Infrastructure to guide a talented team in creating high‑fidelity modeling, simulation, and training solutions.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will have dual responsibilities encompassing both technical and team leadership. You will oversee the software engineering infrastructure discipline which will include design, implementation, and continuous improvement of DevSecOps and Cyber engineer support for a major simulation and training program. This will include managing scope, budget control, and execution for the program across the full lifecycle—from bids and proposals to requirements, design, development, integration, testing, verification, validation and delivery. Additionally, you will play a critical role in fostering a positive work culture, supporting staff career development, and driving the success of a talented engineering team.

The role is based on-site in Sterling, VA, with occasional travel required. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance is mandatory, as much of the work is performed within a classified lab environment requiring daily onsite presence.

  • Actively manage staffing supply ensuring firm and anticipated demand is accurate and appropriate staff levels are allocated.
  • Act as a servant leader by mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge, and enabling team success.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Executive Managers, Program Managers, and Operations Managers.
  • Drive data-driven decision-making processes and solve complex problems in a dynamic environment including risk identification and mitigation.
  • Develop strong internal and external networks, collaborating across engineering, business development, and program/product management functions.
  • Build and maintain a healthy and thriving team by recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and successfully integrating new talent into the organization.
  • Communicate effectively by preparing and presenting updates to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Manage staff career development and advancement by providing access to leadership development programs, mentorship opportunities, and the ability to take on increasing levels of responsibility within RTX, supporting long-term career growth and professional success.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship only (dual citizenship not permitted) is required, as access to information under this program/contract is restricted to individuals with sole U.S. citizenship.
  • Skilled in ALM tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jama, Bamboo, and Crucible.
  • Demonstrated experience building teams and managing projects in software development environments on proprietary or classified programs within aerospace or defense industries.
  • Knowledge of simulation systems or software engineering principles.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and Spiral.
Qualifications We Prefer:
