Job summary

Expedia Group is seeking an Senior Engineering Manager for the Design System Team within our Technology division in Austin, TX. You will lead and scale an engineering organization focused on a unified design system across web, iOS, and Android, driving reusable components, tokens, and theming.

You will shape technical direction, mentor engineers, and partner with product and design stakeholders to deliver scalable, accessible solutions while prioritizing reliability and security.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in computer science, engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of relevant professional experience and 3+ years of people management experience.
• Experience owning technical direction and delivery across a multi-service platform, shared capability, or technical domain.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, system design, low-level design, API design, data modeling, testing, observability, and production operations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, manage technical execution across teams, and translate business and customer needs into engineering outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the technical strategy for reusable design-system capabilities that improve consistency, accessibility, developer productivity, and customer experiences across products.

• Partner with product, design, accessibility, and engineering stakeholders to establish priorities, align roadmaps, and deliver scalable solutions across multiple domains.
• Establish engineering practices that strengthen reliability, quality, security, observability, and operational excellence for design-system platforms and services.
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.

This senior engineering manager role is part of the design system team which sits within our technology division. The team develops and maintains a unified design system that helps teams build consistent, accessible, scalable, and brand-supportive experiences across web, iOS, and Android through reusable components, design standards, tokens, and theming. In this role, you will lead people and delivery for a high-impact engineering team, setting direction, developing talent, and ensuring the team delivers outcomes aligned with business goals.

I n this role, you will:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of relevant professional experience and 3+ years of people management experience
• Experience owning technical direction and delivery across a multi-service platform, shared capability, or technical domain.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, system design, low-level design, API design, data modeling, testing, observability, and production operations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, manage technical execution across teams, and translate business and customer needs into engineering outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience leading the evolution of a design system or comparable shared platform used by multiple product teams, with close partnership across UX, product, design, accessibility, and engineering.
• Experience managing and developing full-stack developers and mobile engineers while scaling reliable, accessible, secure, and maintainable engineering systems across a broad product ecosystem.
• Track record of operating and scaling reliable, accessible, and maintainable engineering systems across a broad product ecosystem..
• Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering workflows or AI/ML-enabled product capabilities, with the judgment to evaluate and operate these solutions responsibly.
• Experience building strong partnerships across engineering, product, design, and other technical disciplines to drive adoption of shared capabilities.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $184,500.00 to $258,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $295,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
