Job summary

AllSTEM Connections seeks a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a growing Chicago-area engineering organization. You will oversee a team of ~30 engineers, designers and technical professionals focused on switchgear, power distribution equipment and engineered electrical systems.

You'll provide strategic leadership while staying hands-on when needed, and work directly with customers to define technical direction, schedules and budgets as the company grows.

Job description

We're looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead a growing engineering organization in the Chicago area. This is a key leadership role overseeing a team of approximately 30 engineers, designers, and technical professionals supporting switchgear, power distribution equipment, and engineered electrical systems.

This is a great opportunity for someone who has spent their career around switchgear and power distribution and is ready to take ownership of a sizable engineering team. We need a strong people leader, but also someone technical enough to roll up their sleeves when needed and comfortable working directly with customers.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and develop a team of approximately 30 engineers, designers, and technical professionals
• Provide technical direction for switchgear, power distribution equipment, and related engineered electrical systems
• Establish priorities, accountability, performance expectations, and engineering standards
• Manage engineering projects, schedules, resources, budgets, and deliverables
• Work directly with customers on technical requirements, project expectations, challenges, and solutions
• Partner closely with project management, manufacturing, operations, sales, and estimating
• Support proposals, quoting, project scoping, and other customer-facing activities
• Help resolve complex technical and project issues
• Provide both strategic leadership and hands-on technical guidance
• Help strengthen and build the engineering organization as the company continues to grow

What We're Looking For

• Approximately 15+ years of engineering experience
• 5-6+ years of engineering management or leadership experience
• Strong experience with switchgear, power distribution equipment, electrical equipment manufacturing, or a closely related industry
• Experience leading a sizable engineering team; leadership of 20-30+ employees is highly desirable
• Mechanical Engineering background with significant switchgear/power distribution experience is preferred; Electrical Engineering backgrounds will also be considered
• Strong understanding of the electrical and mechanical aspects of switchgear and power distribution equipment
• Experience managing engineers, designers, and other technical professionals
• Proven ability to manage engineering projects, resources, schedules, priorities, and budgets
• Strong customer-facing experience and the ability to communicate with both technical and business stakeholders
• Experience working in an engineered-to-order, manufacturing, or project-driven environment is highly desirable
• Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
