Job summary

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineering Designer to join its Highway & Rail Team in Hartford, CT, with flexibility to work from multiple CHA office locations.

The role focuses on leading design drawing development for highway and rail projects and mentoring junior staff. You will collaborate with engineers and project managers to meet schedules and budgets, participate in reviews, and help prepare reports and cost estimates.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering Science, or related technical field required.
• Minimum of 7 years' experience in document production within the engineering discipline required.
• NHDOT experience preferred.
• Proficiency in discipline-based software (MicroStation, OpenRoads) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and development of contract and construction drawings for highway and rail projects using MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
• Mentor junior and mid-level designers, ensuring quality and consistency across project deliverables.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to support project requirements, schedules, and budgets.
• Participate in project review meetings and support the preparation of technical reports, material costs, and construction estimates.
• Prepare project "As-Builts" documentation and support field assignments related to transportation infrastructure projects as needed.

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Engineering Designer to join our Highway & Rail Team at any of the following office locations: Keene, NH; Boston, MA; Burlington, MA; Norwell, MA; Hartford, CT; Portlnd, ME; or Providence, RI. In this role, you will support the design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects-from roadway and interchange improvements to rail corridor upgrades-helping enhance the safe and efficient movement of people and goods.

What You'll Do:

• Lead the preparation and development of contract and construction drawings for highway and rail projects using industry software such as MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer
• Mentor junior and mid-level designers, ensuring quality and consistency across project deliverables
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to support project requirements, schedules, and budgets
• Participate in project review meetings and support the preparation of technical reports, material costs, and construction estimates
• Prepare project "As-Builts" documentation and support field assignments related to transportation infrastructure projects as needed

What You Bring:

• Associate's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering Science, or related technical field required
• Minimum of 7 years' experience in document production within the engineering discipline required

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative work ethic

Salary Range:

$38.46 - $45.67

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
