Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required, with an advanced degree a plus.
  • Professional Engineer’s license is a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 years of distribution engineering experience is required.
  • Experience as an Engineering Certification Program trainer or curriculum developer is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and personal leadership skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the distribution system – design, reliability, maintenance, operations, and/or construction.
  • Knowledge of Power Delivery equipment including switches, transformers, relay schemes, voltage regulators, automation devices, SCADA, fault data equipment, etc.
  • Strong PowerPoint and MS Office skills; ideal candidate will have Learning Management Systems experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Distribution Engineering SME for training.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality training materials with SMEs, instructional designers, and field leadership.
  • Deliver instructor-led and blended training that is engaging, practical, and safety-focused.
  • Contribute to the development of new courses to address evolving standards, technologies, and workforce needs.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and preparedness of SME instructors to ensure consistent and effective training.
  • Identify gaps and drive continuous improvement of the training program through feedback and evaluation.
  • Conduct field visits and collaborate with operations personnel to reflect current work practices.
  • Research, evaluate, and incorporate updates to company standards and engineering practices into training curriculum.
  • Partner with the broader Power Delivery Training team to share resources and maintain program consistency.
  • Ensure training curriculum aligns with Power Delivery Safety initiatives.
  • Support storm restoration efforts as needed.

Job description

This position is responsible for developing, validating, and delivering Distribution Engineering training courses as a technical expert within the Power Delivery Engineering training organization. Reporting to the GPC Distribution Principal Trainer, this role partners with SMEs, instructional designers, and field leadership to build high-quality training and deliver instruction aligned with current engineering practices and operational needs.

This is a hands‑on opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys mentoring others and contributing to how technical knowledge is developed and shared across the organization. The position offers strong exposure to cross‑functional teams and the ability to influence training content and the overall learning experience. Strong technical expertise, communication, and collaboration skills are essential. This role provides a solid path for growth by expanding technical depth, broadening organizational insight, and building technical leadership capability within Power Delivery.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required, with an advanced degree a plus

  • Professional Engineer’s license is a plus.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 3 years of distribution engineering experience is required

  • Previous experience as an Engineering Certification Program trainer or curriculum developer is a plus.

  • In-depth knowledge of the distribution system – experience with design, reliability, maintenance, operations, and/or construction.

  • Experience in and technical knowledge of Power Delivery equipment including switches, transformers, relay schemes, voltage regulators, automation devices, SCADA, fault data equipment, etc.

  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, & regulatory requirements related to applicable work practices including OSHA, HAZCOM, Human Resources, etc.

  • General knowledge of Adult Learning Theory and evaluation procedures used to enhance the development, presentation, and maintenance of training programs is a plus.

  • Strong Powerpoint and MS Office skills required

  • Ideal candidate will have experience with Learning Management Systems.

  • Deliver instructor‑led and blended training that is engaging, practical, and reinforces real‑world application and safety‑focused behaviors.

  • Contribute to the development of new courses to address evolving standards, technologies, and workforce needs.

  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and preparedness of SME instructors to ensure consistent and effective training is delivered.

  • Identify gaps and drive continuous improvement of the training program through feedback, evaluation, and enhancement of the learning experience.

  • Conduct field visits and collaborate with operations personnel, Distribution Standards & Reliability to ensure training materials reflect current work practices and field conditions.

  • Research, evaluate, and incorporate updates to company standards and engineering practices into training curriculum.

  • Partner with the broader Power Delivery Training team to share resources, support system‑wide training efforts, and maintain program consistency.

  • Ensure training curriculum aligns with Power Delivery Safety initiatives.

  • Support storm restoration efforts, as needed.
