Job summary

The Senior Engineering Technician at Kaw Valley Engineering, Inc. oversees construction materials testing both in the lab and at field sites, ensuring conformance to project specs and ASTM methods. The role involves interpreting plans, coordinating with on-site personnel, and reporting results for project records.

You will train junior technicians, support field operations, and act as on-site supervisor in the Laboratory/Field Supervisor's absence, while upholding safety and ethical standards.

• Performs construction materials tests in laboratory and at field sites per procedures and ASTM methods.
• Maintains laboratory site, equipment, and vehicles to ensure quality tests and safety.
• Performs duties as a Licensed Public Authority construction observer.
• Ensures tests are recorded properly and forwarded to the Supervisor.

Job Overview

The Senior Engineering Technician has mastered most testing and inspection tasks for construction materials and can provide site management for CMT projects. Based on testing results, he or she determines material conformance and non‑conformance, and reports test results and observations to on‑site personnel. The technician represents the company on site, communicating regularly with project personnel and providing written documentation of testing activities to supervisors for project records. He or she is proficient in interpreting project documentation, including plans, specifications, and change documents (RFI, ASI, etc.), and anticipates potential conflicts or errors in construction processes. This is a full‑time position.

Duties Include

• While on company business, conducts all tasks safely and ethically in line with Kaw Valley Engineering, Inc. policies.
• Performs construction materials tests, both in the laboratory and at various field sites, in accordance with company procedures, ASTM methods, and/or project specifications.
• Performs routine maintenance on the laboratory site, equipment, and vehicles to ensure quality tests and safety.
• Performs duties as a Licensed Public Authority construction observer.
• Ensures tests are completed per the Kaw Valley Engineering Quality Control Manual, appropriate ASTM, or other specifications required by the Project Engineer or applicable standard, and records results properly before forwarding to the Laboratory/Field Supervisor.
• Provides on‑the‑job training to newly assigned Engineering Technicians and signs off on completion.
• Provides annual competency evaluations to other Engineering Technicians.
• Assists the Laboratory/Field Supervisor in day‑to‑day operations and acts as Supervisor in his or her absence.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
