Job description

Job Overview

The Mission Solutions & Payloads (MSP) team in ElSegundo, CA develops advanced space payloads supporting ISR, missile warning and tracking, Earth observation, and space protection missions. We are seeking Systems Engineers to support the design and development of electro‑optical systems, including imagers, tracking sensors, LIDAR, and directed‑energy payloads.

As an onsite Systems Engineer, you will contribute to mission and system requirements analysis, CONOPS and architecture development, requirements decomposition, trade studies, and IV&V planning. You will support hardware and software integration, develop test plans and procedures, and verify system performance in lab and field environments. You will work collaboratively across disciplines and with customers throughout the full product lifecycle from early design through integration, flight test, production, deployment, and sustainment while applying Digital Engineering methods such as MBSE and Agile development.

What You Will Do
  • Collaborate in a multi‑disciplinary team environment and interface with customers, program management, vendors, and functional partners.
  • Develop and decompose system requirements, define system interfaces, and support validation and verification planning.
  • Perform system performance analysis along with hardware and software integration and test activities.
  • Conduct tests on optical and electrical components and integrated systems, collect data, and analyze results to assess and optimize performance.
  • Identify issues during testing, perform troubleshooting and calibration, and support system design updates and enhancements.
  • Execute integration, verification, and validation testing, and document results through clear test reports and technical briefings.
  • Develop use cases, support test architecture development, and participate in technical reviews and technical interchange meetings.
  • Perform performance evaluations and root‑cause analysis, including corrective and preventive action development.
  • Use laboratory or field test equipment and analysis tools such as MATLAB for simulation, modeling, and quantitative evaluation.
  • Support program activities that may require travel up to 25%.
What You Will Learn

After completion of comprehensive on‑the‑job training, you will be part of a team supporting Systems Engineering and Systems Integration & Test activities across the product development lifecycle.

Qualifications – Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred) and a minimum of five years of prior relevant experience in design, development, and testing of EO/IR systems or related fields.
  • Experience with the product life cycle for space development programs (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, PSR/CTSR).
  • Active and transferable U.S. government‑issued DoD Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
Qualifications – Prefer
  • Advanced Degree in Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM preferred).
  • Experience in designing, integrating, or testing EO/IR systems, imagers, focal planes, or opto‑mechanical components.
  • Knowledge of signal/image processing, computer vision, tracking, machine learning, or object recognition.
  • Understanding of opto‑mechanical engineering principles, embedded computing, control systems, or electronics performance parameters.
  • Experience with systems architecture, design work, IV&V planning, and execution.
  • Familiarity with MBSE and requirements‑management tools such as CAMEO or DOORS.
  • Experience working in integration labs, test facilities, or field environments supporting system integration and verification.
  • Root‑cause analysis, corrective‑action implementation, and failure‑prevention measures.
  • Use of Monte‑Carlo simulations for system‑performance modeling and test strategy support.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary—$95,500USD to $181,700USD.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and paid parental leave.
  • Education reimbursement and employee assistance program.
  • Employee Scholar Program and parental leave incentives.
  • Potential annual short‑term and/or long‑term incentive compensation programs.
