ACS Professional Staffing is recruiting a Senior Engineer - Substation Physical for a leading power systems provider. The role leads design and execution of complex substations, offering technical leadership, mentorship, and lifecycle support.

The ideal candidate has 12+ years in power systems, expert substation physical design knowledge, and a PE license, with travel up to 25% to client sites across the US.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert in substation physical engineering solutions.

  • Lead development and review of project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Manage projects through full lifecycle from concept to commissioning.
  • Create detailed substation physical designs, layouts, BOMs, and estimates.
  • Support customers with design, configuration, validation, testing, and implementation.

Overview

Our client, a leading provider of power system protection, automation, and integration solutions, is seeking a Senior Engineer - Substation Physical to lead the design and execution of complex substation projects, provide technical leadership and mentorship, and support customers throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate brings 12+ years of power systems experience, expert knowledge of substation physical design, a PE license, and a proven track record managing engineering projects, client relationships, and multidisciplinary teams.

This position is open to candidates nationwide. Preference will be given to candidates located in or near the following markets: Nashua, NH; King of Prussia, PA; Columbus, OH; Charlotte, NC; Alpharetta, GA; Tampa, FL; Plymouth, MI; Twin Cities, MN; West Lafayette, IN; Houston, TX; Plano, TX; Denver, CO; St. Louis, MO; Boise, ID; Phoenix, AZ; Pullman, WA; Irvine, CA; and Vacaville, CA.

Pay range: $165,000 - $215,000

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a technical expert in the design and application of substation physical engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineers, specialists, and technicians.
  • Research, develop, and implement innovative engineering solutions, processes, and best practices.
  • Lead the development and review of project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure high-quality execution.
  • Manage engineering projects through the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through installation, commissioning, and operational support.
  • Create detailed substation physical designs, electrical layouts, bill of materials, and project estimates.
  • Support customers with engineering design, configuration, validation, testing, commissioning, and implementation of engineered solutions.
  • Collaborate with clients, utilities, consultants, and project stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Promote environmental, health, and safety initiatives while ensuring compliance with company safety standards and practices.
  • Lead technical training efforts and support the professional development of engineering team members.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 12+ years of experience with electric power systems or equivalent utility, consulting, or engineering industry experience.
  • Expert-level knowledge in substation physical design and engineering principles.
  • Extensive experience designing electrical power substations, including equipment layouts, grading, drainage, foundations, and constructability considerations.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing complex engineering projects, budgets, schedules, and client deliverables.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving project requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% as required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check and drug screening.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Experience working for an electrical utility, engineering consulting firm, or system integrator.
  • Extensive customer-facing experience within the power systems industry.
  • Experience using project management or project tracking software
