Job summary

A Texas Professional Engineer license is required to ensure compliant, safe, and reliable infrastructure. Responsibilities include preparing drawings and specs, interfacing with fabricators, performing stress analyses, and developing cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Texas PE license.
  • Minimum of six years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience in structural and foundation analysis and design for transmission line or substation structures preferred.
  • Experience with GTSTRUDL or comparable software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze structures and foundations for transmission and substation facilities.
  • Prepare and review drawings, specifications, calculations and other technical documents.
  • Interface with fabricators and engineering staff to finalize designs and maintain schedules.
  • Perform stress and foundation analyses and report results to engineers.

Job Summary

Provide structural and foundation design and analysis for transmission and substation systems, with emphasis on reliability, material adequacy, inspection technologies, and the addition, replacement, rehabilitation, or augmentation of facilities.

Please Note: This position requires a Professional Engineer License in the state of Texas

Essential Functions
  • Design and analyze structures and foundations for transmission and substation facilities, and provide structural support to Transmission, Telecom, Distribution, and Substation engineering groups as needed.
  • Prepare and review drawings, specifications, calculations, and other technical documents required to procure materials, fabricate structures, and install structures and foundations.
  • Interface with fabricators and their engineering staff to finalize designs for fabrication while maintaining project schedules.
  • Perform stress analyses and foundation analyses as required, and provide results and recommendations to project engineers, foundation design engineers, and other requesting parties.
  • Review vendor structure data, calculations, and drawings, including information provided by other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare economic analyses to compare structural or foundation design methodologies and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Develop and maintain standards, design procedures, material specifications, and technical guidance for structural and foundation design.
  • Recommend construction procedures and installation practices for structures and foundations based on site conditions.
Education Description
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with coursework or emphasis in structural analysis, structural design, and foundation engineering, or a related four-year engineering degree.
  • Professional Engineer license in the state of Texas.
Experience
  • Minimum of six years of experience in a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in structural and foundation analysis and design for transmission line or substation structures is preferred.
  • Experience with computer-aided drafting, materials testing, and structural or foundation design and analysis software, such as GTSTRUDL or comparable applications, is preferred.
  • A Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • A PhD degree in Engineering may be substituted for two years of experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to certify and use personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs on a daily basis.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
Working Conditions
  • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily or for extended time periods, in a safe manner.
  • Able to travel occasionally overnight.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
