Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design and develop scalable services powering internal and customer-facing apps. You will focus on performance, reliability, and robust data platforms, building microservices, APIs, and data pipelines that scale with our platform ecosystem.

You will mentor junior engineers, participate in architectural decisions, and improve monitoring, testing, and deployment practices while collaborating with UX/UI, sensors, and operations teams to ensure

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of production experience building large-scale distributed systems.
• Advanced programming in Golang and Python, with REST API design.
• Proven microservices experience and distributed communication patterns.
• Strong cloud infra knowledge across AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Solid distributed systems understanding: concurrency, caching, sharding.
• Kafka experience for messaging and monitoring data pipelines.
• AI technologies usage to enhance decision-making and workflows.
• PostgreSQL and Redis in distributed environments.
• Experience debugging complex distributed architectures and code reviews.
• Mentor juniors and contribute to technical decisions.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services powering both internal and customer-facing web applications with focus on performance and reliability
• Create intuitive command-line utilities and APIs that integrate seamlessly with our platform ecosystem
• Architect supporting systems including databases, real-time data pipelines, and monitoring solutions
• Partner with UX/UI, Sensors, and other teams to deliver integrated solutions with comprehensive documentation
• Configure advanced monitoring, alerting, and maintain high availability for production services
• Drive architectural improvements, optimize performance, and enhance user experience through iterative refinement
• Guide junior engineers and contribute to technical decision‑making processes
• Ensure robust, healthy service operations with proactive maintenance and incident response capabilities

Requirements

• 8-10 years of production experience building, delivering, and maintaining large-scale distributed systems processing high-volume data
• Advanced programming expertise in object-oriented languages with strong typing (we primarily use Golang and Python—we'll help you master our stack!)
• Proven microservices experience with designing scalable REST APIs and distributed communication patterns
• Strong cloud infrastructure knowledge with major providers (AWS preferred, plus Azure and GCP) for provisioning, monitoring, and optimization
• Solid distributed systems understanding including concurrency, parallel processing, and scalability patterns (sharding, eventual consistency, caching strategies)
• Message queue proficiency, particularly Kafka (message design, throughput estimation, lag monitoring, and performance considerations)
• Proven experience utilizing AI technologies to enhance decision‑making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency and drive business outcomes.
• Database versatility across RDBMS/SQL (PostgreSQL preferred) and distributed caching solutions like Redis
• System troubleshooting expertise for complex distributed architectures with focus on performance and reliability
• Engineering best practices experience including testing strategies, code reviews, and resilient architecture design
• Collaborative technical skills with ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical decisions
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent professional experience
• Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and system design principles.
