Job Summary:

The Senior Engineer in the Advanced Technology Group will play a critical role in the development and implementation of innovative solutions across multiple disciplines, including product development, test method development, finite element analysis (FEA), process development, and manufacturing. This position will involve leading and supporting diverse engineering initiatives, applying advanced technical expertise, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive value and create sustainable business impact.

The role will require strong problem-solving skills and leadership in experimental design. The Senior Engineer will also contribute to Greene Tweed's external reputation through participation in conferences, technical committees, and publications.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Product Development & Innovation:

  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, and execution of new products, processes, and technologies.
  • Utilize Design of Experiments (DOE), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and/or advanced modeling techniques (FEA) to troubleshoot, optimize processes, and enhance product performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, development engineering, applications engineering, product management, manufacturing) to align product designs with customer needs and industry standards.
  • Develop and refine test methods, procedures, and validation processes to support new product and application development aligned with strategic initiatives.

Technical Leadership & Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with a dynamic team and lead through demanding challenges.
  • Represent Greene Tweed in technical forums, conferences, and committees, contributing to industry papers, patents, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Communicate complex technical strategies, test results, and development progress to internal and external stakeholders, including customers and partners.
  • Provide guidance and lead the proliferation of existing products to new markets by defining new specifications and producing and presenting data packages.

Manufacturing & Process Optimization:

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure products are designed for manufacturability, meeting both internal and customer specifications.
  • Implement process improvements through detailed analysis, modeling, and experimentation to address manufacturing challenges.

Testing & Analysis:

  • Develop and conduct detailed material and product testing (mechanical, dynamic, thermal, rheological, plasma, chemical resistance, etc.) and analyze results to ensure products meet or exceed technical specifications.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and failure testing to address production or performance issues and provide technical solutions.
  • Correlate internal test methods with customers’ test methods to predict material performance on field tests.

Teamwork & Collaboration:

  • Act as a key technical resource within multidisciplinary teams, driving collaboration across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and commercial teams.
  • Lead project teams to deliver innovative solutions aligned with Greene Tweed’s business goals.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment focused on continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Materials, Chemical, Mechanical, Plastics, or related fields).

Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience in areas such as product development, test method creation, process optimization, manufacturing, FEA, or related fields.
  • Strong experience with DOE and other problem-solving methodologies.
  • Expertise in materials testing (mechanical, dynamic, thermal, chemical) and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes. Knowledge of plasma testing methods for semiconductor applications is a plus.
  • Prior experience working with fluoropolymers is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, with strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Proven track record of technical contributions through patents, papers, or conference presentations.
  • Experience in designing products for manufacturability and understanding the relationship between design and production processes.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools (JMP, Minitab) and lab data management systems.
  • Experience with CAD software and modeling tools such as FEA for design optimization is a plus.
