Job summary

Karman Space & Defense seeks a Chief Engineer of Pyrotechnic Mechanisms in Mukilteo, WA. You will guide design from concept to low-rate production, ensuring safety, robustness, and producibility while aligning with mission requirements.

Responsibilities include translating requirements into mechanical solutions, managing risk, and leading multidisciplinary teams with suppliers and internal groups. A DoD Secret clearance is required or obtainable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related field.
• 15+ years designing and qualifying pyrotechnic or energetic mechanisms.
• Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards for energetic systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of pyrotechnic mechanisms from concept through production.
• Translate system requirements into mechanical solutions and manage risk.
• Define manufacturing and assembly guidelines with suppliers and teams.
• Lead design and safety reviews and document decisions.
• Mentor engineers and ensure compliance with DoD/NASA regs.
