Job summary

Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) seeks a Lead Engineer to lead teams and deliver custom protection and control solutions for high-and medium-voltage substations. You will guide detailed designs, review schematics, and coordinate with clients to meet schedules and budgets.

The role requires 6+ years in relay/protection engineering, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and the ability to travel for field support and site visits.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years in relay/protection engineering or related field.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
  • EIT registration preferred; PE preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design teams for protection & control detailed designs.
  • Review one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, SCADA, and telecom routing.
  • Provide field support including site walks and as-built reviews.
  • Coordinate projects with limited supervision and travel.
  • Ensure compliance with client standards and cyber security requirements.
  • Mentor junior personnel and interface with customers.

Description

A Lead Engineer with Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) will lead a team or work on a team to complete engineering tasks and create custom engineering solutions to meet customer needs. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to adapt in a fast-paced and evolving industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Creating and reviewing Protection & Control detaileddesigns and direct others in the detaileddesignof medium to extra-high-voltageutilitysubstations
  • Perform detaileddesignof one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing,substationphysical layouts, selection ofsubstationequipment, writing ofsubstationequipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
  • Creating and reviewing detaileddesigns of Communication or Integration One-Line Diagrams and Front view Panel Diagrams for integratingsubstationprotective relaying withutilityspecific RTU/ Remote Access / SCADA, managed switches and LAN Communication Equipment.
  • Experience filling the role ofsubstationdesignengineer for several projects occurring concurrently
  • Reviewing current industry best practices to ensure best in class protection philosophy and compliance with cyber security requirements
  • Leading, planning, and coordinating projects with limited supervision
  • Understanding and delivering results based on client-specific standards and requirements
  • Training and developing junior personnel
  • Leading project teams and interfacing with the customer to deliver a quality product by the scheduled delivery date
  • Act as the OE (Owner’s Engineer) responsible for reviewingdesigns and supplying thedesignteam with the requested information to complete a project
  • Occasional travel will be required - Field support including Walk-downs, Site Visits, And “As-Built” support
Education & Experience
  • 6+ years of experience in relay/protection engineering or related industry required.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering theory, practices, and procedures
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) registration preferred
  • Registered PE (Professional Engineer) preferred
  • Familiarization or experience with various New England utilities and their associated P&C standards and procedures preferred
  • Experience in power protection, relaydesign, and planning, orsubstationdesignand telecom integration
  • Experience withsubstationrelays and equipment manufacturers such as SEL, GE, Beckwith, electromechanical relays, Ruggedcom switches, and Cimplicity HMIs
  • Experience withAutoCADorMicroStationsoftware preferred
  • Experience with Document Control or Document Management preferred.
