Job description

Role Description:

The Senior Product Engineer (Sr PE) is responsible for the design enhancement and implementation of bio-devices for the animal health industry. This position involves the cross-functional development and implementation of electro-mechanical systems, electrical and electronic subassemblies, and overall bio-device design for automated vaccination equipment within the bio-devices engineering group. The Sr PE will participate in the conceptual development of new commercial products and support existing products. The role requires working independently and sometimes leading entire bio-device development efforts, in close collaboration with teams including Design Engineers, Quality Representatives, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Suppliers, under the guidance of Sr Engineering Management and Project Management. The individual will often coordinate and influence the design efforts of other engineers and designers, though without supervisory responsibilities.

A Product Engineer assumes primary design responsibility after Alpha phase prototypes meet product requirements. From Beta, the Sr Product Engineer is responsible for scaling the product for launch, guiding manufacturing readiness, managing supplier readiness, overseeing initial installations at customer sites, and supporting the product post-launch.

The responsibilities of the Senior Product Engineer include:

  1. Provide On-Market Support: for legacy products, obsolescence replacement, failure analysis, engineering change support, and manufacturing liaison.
  2. Guide Concept Development: ensuring designs are manufacturable and viable.
  3. Design and Develop: mechanical, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and fluidic systems, understanding their interface with electrical controls and biological processes.
  4. Participate in System Engineering: defining product specifications and control interactions for complex electromechanical systems.
  5. Support Documentation: drawing development, design reviews, change processes, and ensuring accuracy of drawings and dimensions.
  6. Proposal and Costing: for design enhancements, modeling, simulation, detailed design, validation, verification, and integration into hatchery systems.
  7. Project Support: providing engineering support across multiple project lifecycles.
  8. Coordinate/Lead Problem Solving: including design updates, process development, and documentation.
  9. Manufacturing Issue Resolution: analyzing and resolving issues promptly.
  10. Cost Reduction: supporting initiatives to minimize waste.

Minimum qualifications include a B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Biomechanical, Electrical) and at least 10 years of engineering experience in a complex product environment, with extensive collaboration with design, operations, and suppliers. The candidate should have expertise in root cause analysis, engineering specifications, design for automated equipment, materials, manufacturing principles, and proficiency with tools such as SolidWorks, CAD, SAP, and modern prototyping methods. Strong problem-solving, planning, decision-making, communication, and teamwork skills are essential.
