Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Process/Mechanical Engineer to advance design for large-scale power, refining, and chemical projects. You will develop PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment datasheets, perform hydraulic analyses, and size major equipment while translating design basis into actionable tasks.

The role involves participation in PHA reviews, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and coordination with EPC teams. A PE license is preferred and AspenTech tools are valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience as a Process/Mechanical Engineer in oil refining, gas processing, power, or chemical industries.
  • 7+ years in power, refining/gas processing, petrochemical or similar PSM regulated industries.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and equipment datasheets.
  • Develop heat and mass balance.
  • Size pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, and air coolers.

Job description

  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFD), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and Process/Mechanical Equipment Datasheets
  • Develop Heat and Mass Balance
  • Size and rate pumps, horizontal and vertical vessels, heat exchangers, and air coolers
  • Perform hydraulic analysis and calculations for piping systems, including single phase, two phase, slurries, water hammer, slug flow, and distribution networks
  • Translate project design basis requirements, client specifications, and contract documents into definable process tasks
  • Support Zachry’s quality program through quality checks and verification of input-data documentation
  • Engineer and design the Process engineering scope of assigned projects using standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Support projects as an individual contributor; supervise, coordinate, and review a small team as needed
  • Participate in client Process Hazard Analysis reviews, including risk review, HAZID, HAZOP/LOPA
  • Design relief systems, including contingency analysis, relief valve sizing, flare header design, and flare header analysis
  • Present technical information to peers and clients for review and comment
  • Analyze problems and take action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems
  • Evaluate equipment and processes for compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Coordinate with the offshore High Value Engineering Center for engineering execution
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience working as a Process / Mechanical Engineer in industries such as Oil Refining, Gas Processing, Power, or Chemical industries
  • 7+ years working in Power, refining/gas processing, Petrochemical or similar PSM regulated industries
  • 5+ years working in an Engineering firm as a Process / Mechanical engineer
  • Comprehensive understanding of processes typically seen in Power / Process plants
  • Experience applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria
  • Experience in PFD, P&ID and Equipment Datasheet development
  • Proficient in H&MB development, equipment and instrumentation process specification, and hydraulic analysis
  • Knowledge of Performance Guarantees including emissions compliance
  • Experience specifying fixed and rotating equipment including STG, CTG, and HRSG
  • Strong knowledge of ASME and API 520/521; proficiency designing relief devices and associated collection headers
  • Excellent communication skills (active listening, verbal, and written)
  • Excellent attention to detail, including checking others’ work
  • Proven history of meeting schedule commitments and planning resources
  • Proficient with process modeling software; AspenTech suite preferred
  • Demonstrated desire to learn new technologies and apply learnings to current projects
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
  • Experience with Thermoflow, Aspen Hysys, AFT, Fathom, Arrow, Impulse, Korf, HTRI, Flarenet, and iPRSM preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience in EPC Power business preferred
  • Experience designing OSBL/Utility scopes supporting Licensor packages and converting PDP preferred
  • Exposure to environmental permitting and citing studies preferred
  • Active member of professional organizations/committees
