Job summary

Centerra Gold in Goldfield, Nevada, seeks a Senior Mine Engineer to optimize safe, efficient operation of a heap-leach gold mine. You will lead planning, design, and scheduling across short- and medium-range horizons, coordinating with geology, maintenance, and processing teams to maximize ore recovery and efficiency.

The role requires a strong background in open-pit mining, 5+ years, and experience with Deswik/Vulcan/MineSight/Whittle/Surpac.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• P.Eng. designation or eligibility preferred/required depending on jurisdiction.

Aboutthe Goldfield District Project

Located on the Walker Lane trend in Esmeralda County, Nevada, about 30 miles south of Tonopah, the Goldfield District Project can be accessed via U.S. Highway 95 from Las Vegas or Reno. This project is conventional open-pit, heap leach project in a prolific mining jurisdiction that provides substantial upside potential.

About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Senior Engineer, Mine to join our Goldfield Project team located in Goldfield, Nevada. The Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for providing technical mine engineering support to optimize the safe, efficient, and economically sustainable operation of Centerra’s open-pit heap leach gold mine in Goldfield, NV. Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, this position plays a key role in mine planning, engineering design, production scheduling, and operational support across short- and medium-range planning horizons.

Working closely with the mining contractor, Geology, Maintenance, Processing, and other technical teams, the Senior Mine Engineer will develop practical mine plans and schedules that support production targets, optimize ore delivery and waste movement, and maximize the value of the mineral resource.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Supervise and mentor a Mine Engineer (direct report), assigning work, reviewing technical deliverables, and supporting their professional development.
• Develop and maintain short- and medium-range mine plans and production schedules in alignment with the overall mine plan.
• Prepare and optimize open-pit mine designs, including pushbacks, pit phases, haul roads, ramps, stockpiles, dumps, and other mine infrastructure.
• Develop detailed mine schedules that balance ore production, waste movement, equipment capacity, operational constraints, and processing requirements.
• Work closely with the mining contractor to ensure plans and schedules are practical, achievable, and aligned with current site conditions.
• Provide daily and weekly technical support to the mining contractor, including troubleshooting operational constraints and identifying opportunities to improve productivity.
• Collaborate with Geology to incorporate grade control information, ore boundaries, dilution, mining losses, and material classification into mine plans.
• Support ore control, stockpile management, and ore routing strategies to ensure appropriate material is delivered to the heap leach facility.
• Develop and maintain material movement plans for ore, low-grade ore, waste, and other mine materials.
• Monitor actual performance against mine plans and schedules, identify variances, and develop corrective actions where required.
  Conduct mine-to-plan and production reconciliation and use results to improve future mine plans and forecasts.
• Evaluate mining sequences and operating strategies to optimize ore recovery, minimize dilution and mining losses, and maximize equipment utilization.
• Provide engineering support for drill and blast planning, excavation strategies, haulage optimization, and other mine production activities.
• Support mine life planning, long-range studies, and capital projects as required.
• Evaluate and optimize haulage requirements, equipment productivity, fleet utilization, and material movement.
• Develop engineering calculations, cost estimates, production forecasts, and technical analyses to support operational and strategic decisions.

About You

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Mine Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional engineering designation such as P.Eng. or eligibility for registration is preferred/required depending on jurisdiction.
• 5+ years of progressive mine engineering experience, with significant experience in open-pit mining.
• Previous experience in a producing open-pit mine environment is required.
• Gold mining experience is strongly preferred, ideally within a heap leach operation.
• Strong experience with short- and medium-range mine planning and production scheduling.
• Demonstrated experience developing open-pit mine designs, pushbacks, phases, haul roads, waste dumps, and stockpiles.
• Experience integrating geology, grade control, geotechnical, and operational information into mine plans.
• Strong understanding of open-pit mining methods, production processes, equipment capabilities, and mine economics.
• Experience with mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, Whittle, Surpac, or equivalent.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex operational issues and develop practical solutions.
