Job summary

Qualus is seeking an Engineer III - Electrical to perform power system studies including short circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, harmonic analysis, and related assessments. You will collaborate with multiple departments across geographies to present results and design cost-effective mitigation solutions.

Qualified candidates hold a ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree with 4+ years of experience and proficiency in SKM, ETAP, or Easypower.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited school
  • 4+ years of experience performing power system studies for industrial clients
  • Experience with SKM, ETAP, or Easypower
  • Strong communication and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks

Responsibilities

  • Perform Short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies using SKM, ETAP, and/or Easypower
  • Apply knowledge of switchgear, MCCs, breakers, panels to derive mitigation solutions
  • Develop study reports and communicate results to customers
  • Develop relay protective setpoints and settings files
  • Develop/update equipment schematics, one-lines, three-lines, and wiring diagrams
  • Work on project teams to meet quality and deadlines
  • Maintain up-to-date technical skills related to electrical substations and protection and control schematics

Job description

Power your future with Qualus in our Engineering department as an Engineer III - Electrical. As Electrical Engineer you will work with several departments in different geographies to perform power system studies including short circuit and equipment evaluation, overcurrent coordination and protection, arc flash, load flow, motor starting, power quality, and harmonic analysis. Additionally, using strong communication and project management skills, you will present the results from these studies to internal and external customers, helping to design cost effective mitigation solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies for commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and generation facilities using SKM, ETAP, and/or Easypower software.
  • Applies knowledge of low and medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, circuit breakers, panel boards, and disconnects to determine cost-effective mitigation solutions from the results and recommendations of power system studies.
  • Develop study reports and communicate results and recommendations to customers.
  • Perform data collection activities.
  • Develop and/or implement arc flash mitigation designs.
  • Interpret new construction drawing packages.
  • Develop relay protective setpoints and settings files.
  • Develop and/or update equipment control schematics, one-lines, three-lines, and wiring diagrams.
  • Working on project teams supporting all quality and project management goals.
  • Meeting all project deadlines and supporting the processes and procedures to meet deadlines.
  • Maintaining up-to-date technical skills related to the design of electrical substations and protection and control schematics for the electric utility power grid through on-the-job work and formal training.
  • Successfully execute small to medium-sized projects with limited oversight.
  • Self-manage assigned projects and job cost accountability to perform work within budgeted cost estimates.
  • Effectively communicate with other departments and customers to ensure activities are properly coordinated.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related from an ABET accredited school
  • 4 or more years of experience performing power system studies and associated data collection activities for industrial customers
  • Experience with SKM
  • Must have ability to work independently, accurately, and have high attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and the ability effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers
  • Strong computer skills
