Microchip's Frequency and Time Systems (FTS) business unit is a growing, world‑leading provider of precision time solutions, setting the global standard for time. The business unit generates, distributes, and applies precise time for the aerospace, defense, communications, IT infrastructure, and metrology industries.
Our Government Systems group in Colorado is seeking a Senior Engineer II - System (Integration, Linux + Programming) to join our team of technical professionals supporting complex networked systems. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in Linux administration, network configuration, scripting automation, and hardware integration, with the ability to streamline processes and ensure reliable system performance across multiple environments.
This position plays a key role in developing, integrating, and maintaining systems that bridge hardware and software domains. The engineer will collaborate closely with network architects, software developers, and test engineers to design efficient, scalable, and secure solutions.
This position may require up to 30% travel, including domestic and international assignments, to support integration, testing, and deployment efforts at customer and partner sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, administer, and maintain network switches, routers, and related infrastructure.
- Perform Linux system integration and administration, including user management, service configuration, and system hardening.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (written in Python, Bash, or a similar language) to reduce manual workload and enhance consistency across deployments.
- Support hardware integration efforts, including setup, cabling, and system bring‑up activities.
- Translate customer requirements into formal system architectures and detailed block diagrams to guide engineering teams.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, refine, and validate technical requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Conduct customer briefings and technical presentations to communicate system capabilities, status updates, integration progress, and risk mitigation.
- Troubleshoot complex network and system issues across physical and virtual environments.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define integration requirements and technical documentation.
- Participate in system design reviews, offering input on architecture, scalability, and reliability improvements.
- Contribute to process automation initiatives for testing, provisioning, and system monitoring.
- Assist in maintaining and improving the configuration management and deployment frameworks.
- Perform vulnerability testing using system test tools (e.g., ACAS/Nessus, SCAP, STIGs) and remediate flaws within the directed timeframe.
- Perform other job‑related responsibilities as directed by the manager.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems Security, Cybersecurity, or related field.
- 7.5 - 10 years of directly related experience.
- Proven experience in network architecture and switch configuration (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, or similar).
- Strong Linux administration and integration experience (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar).
- Proficiency in Python and shell scripting for automation tasks.
- Hands‑on experience with hardware integration and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with vulnerability management tools and STIG compliance.
- Strong problem‑solving, documentation, and collaboration skills.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
- Active Top‑Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as CCNA, RHCSA, or Network+.
- Experience with version control (Mercurial or Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with virtualization or containerization (VMware, Docker, etc.).
- Exposure to secure system design and compliance‑based environments.
- Prior experience working in a classified or restricted network environment is a plus.
Travel Requirements
- Up to 30% travel may be required, including domestic and international travel, to support project integration, testing, customer site support, or technical reviews.

Pay
The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $70,304 - $205,000.
*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
