Job summary

Cologix is seeking a Sr. Engineer – Commissioning to direct and support commissioning activities for mission-critical data center projects.

You will ensure MEP, controls, and security systems are designed, installed, tested, and operated to meet project requirements and industry best practices. The ideal candidate has extensive commissioning experience in mission-critical environments, with expertise in electrical distribution, backup power, UPS, cooling, BMS/EPMS controls, and liquid-cooled

Responsibilities

• Developing commissioning standards for the company across future projects.
• Assisting in development of commissioning plans per project.
• Leading and/or supporting commissioning activities from pre-design through turnover and occupancy (L1–L5).
• Coordinating commissioning schedules with PMs, contractors, vendors, and agents to meet project milestones.
• Assisting in OFCI vendor equipment delivery alignment with construction and commissioning timelines.
• Reviewing commissioning scripts for projects and approving them.
• Reviewing design documents, equipment submittals, and sequences of operation for testability.
• Tracking commissioning progress and maintaining logs, issue lists, and turnover documents.
• Attending factory witness testing (FWT) as required.
• Facilitating site acceptance testing (SAT) for all equipment.
• Verifying installation, pre-energization, and startup of electrical, mechanical, controls, security and life-safety systems per project requirements.
• Participating in commissioning meetings and providing status updates to leadership and stakeholders.
• Coordinating functional performance testing of UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers, CRAHs/CRACs, BMS/EPMS, and other critical systems.
• Supporting integrated systems testing.
• Managing resolution of commissioning issues with design consultants, contractors, vendors, and commissioning agents.
• Supporting operational readiness by coordinating training, turnover documentation, SOP/MOP/EOP reviews, and final acceptance activities.

About the Position:

The Sr. Engineer – Commissioning is responsible for directing and/or supporting planning, coordinating, and executing all commissioning activities associated with mission-critical data center projects. This role ensures that mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), controls, and security are designed, installed, tested, and operated in accordance with project requirements and industry best practices. The Sr. Engineer – Commissioning supports the Sr. Director of Commissioning and works closely with design teams, general contractors, trade partners, equipment vendors, commissioning agents, and operations personnel to deliver fully functional facilities ready for turnover.

The ideal candidate has direct commissioning experience in mission-critical environments, with a strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, backup power generation, UPS systems, multiple cooling systems, BMS/EPMS controls, and liquid cooled systems. This individual must be comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, schedule, details, and operational readiness.

• Develop, with the Sr. Director of Commissioning, commissioning standards for the company to apply to all future projects.
• Support in the development in commissioning plans on a per project basis.
• Support and/or lead commissioning activities for projects from pre-design through turnover and occupancy, including L1 activities as required, and L2 through L5.
• Coordinate commissioning schedules with project managers, contractors, vendors, and commissioning agents to support overall project milestones.
• Assist in managing the OFCI vendor equipment delivery schedules to align with construction and commissioning requirements.
• Review and approve commissioning scripts developed by the commissioning agent for projects
• Review design documents, equipment submittals, and sequences of operation to ensure systems can be tested and commissioned effectively.
• Track commissioning progress and maintain commissioning logs, issue lists, deficiency reports, and turnover documentation.
• Attend factory witness testing (FWT) where required
• Facilitate site acceptance testing (SAT) for all equipment.
