Job summary

Motional is recruiting a senior software engineer for autonomous driving related data systems. You will develop large-scale solutions, mine driving scenarios, and improve model performance across robotics tasks. You will collaborate with ML infra teams to support continuous learning, research uncertainty signals, and assess model robustness.

The role emphasizes system design, agile delivery, and mentorship of junior researchers, with the possibility to work remotely from any U.S. state.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related technical discipline.
• At least five years of post-bachelors industry experience.
• Experience with Python and production-grade software development including configuration management, source control, build processes, code reviews, testing practices, application containerization, and CI.
• Experience with core AWS services (S3, RDS, Athena, Redshift, or EKS) and databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, SQLite).
• Experience writing SQL queries for data analysis, building data models and dashboards with Looker or Redash, and designing large-scale distributed systems for robotics.
• Experience in system and software design, project management, and agile delivery methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop large-scale solutions to mine difficult driving scenarios and improve learned model performance.
• Partner with ML infrastructure teams to support continuous learning workflows through mining, error analysis, training, and deployment.
• Research and build methods to identify uncertainty and informativeness signals to discover challenging scenes and assess model performance.
• Provide statistical analysis and insight into model uncertainty, generalization, and robustness.
• Run deep learning experiments and prepare technical reports.
• Mentor junior researchers and review research project designs and documentation.
• Possible remote work from any U.S. state.
