OVERVIEW

Reach New Heights!

ARCTOS Technology Solutions, LLC (ARCTOS) is a fast-growing, technology-oriented small business providing aerospace, defense, and digital solutions, with offices and work sites across the United States. We’re looking for team-oriented innovators eager to tackle interesting challenges, work on important problems, and receive great benefits and employee support.

REQUIREMENT

The Senior Engineer for Aerospace Sustainment Innovation will conduct R&D projects to design, fabricate, and operate equipment and systems for repair process development such as digital inspection, automated defect identification and characterization, adaptive blending/machining, advanced joining, additive metal deposition, local deformation processes, and heat treatment. In this role, the Senior Engineer will lead/support technology and product development activities to develop repair process parameters, operational protocols, and controls for equipment ranging from laboratory scale to prototype production work cells that advance the sustainment of aerospace and defense systems. This position is a direct report to the Director of Industrial Innovation and will work across the multidisciplinary ARCTOS Industrial Innovation Laboratory team in executing projects.

For the Senior Engineer who quickly develops a record of technical accomplishments, this role provides career growth opportunities leading to Principal Investigator and Program Manager positions having greater responsibilities for project execution, risk management, and meeting project objectives, milestones, and customer deliverables. In particular, a current opportunity exists to serve as Principal Investigator on a recently awarded $4M+ contract from the U.S. Air Force focused on novel repair of integrally bladed disks (aka integrally bladed rotors, IBDs, IBRs, or blisks) for fighter aircraft engines. This project involves the maturation of laser processing and mechanical deformation processes along with the design and fabrication of equipment to conduct these processes (in collaboration with external project partners) to advance and scale-up the ARCTOS IBR repair process to TRL 5/6, with the aim to facilitate future repair technology implementation at DoD depots. In addition, career growth into strategic technology development planning and investment strategy roles is desired. In these roles, the Senior Engineer will lead/support business development activities to identify and propose externally funded R&D project opportunities for advanced technology development to address military (and potentially commercial) sustainment challenges.

This position is ideal for an experienced technologist who is adept at collaborating internally and externally to advance technologies. The ideal candidate would be an experienced engineer with technology development and/or project management experience in materials and processes, mechanical engineering, propulsion, systems engineering, and/or other aerospace domains. Involvement in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of aerospace systems would be an added plus. Prior military, government, or contractor experience as an engineer in an Air Force air logistics center or research laboratory would be beneficial. Experience with and/or interest in the application of emerging technologies such as 3D scanning, additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), digital thread/twin, or augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) are also a plus.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct R&D projects in aerospace sustainment innovation and related areas.
  • Collaborate with program managers and supporting technical staff to meet all project requirements.
  • Work closely with key external strategic partners supporting project objectives.
  • Grow into PI role for specific R&D projects, having greater responsibility for a larger portion of the R&D project portfolio.
  • Engage government and industrial customers to understand technology gaps and opportunities.
  • Conceive and pitch innovative R&D project concepts through proposals for external funding.
  • Stay abreast of technology trends and partnering opportunities in the aerospace sustainment arena.
  • Represent ARCTOS at relevant technical conferences, trade shows, and industry days.
  • Work with ARCTOS key personnel to comply with all safety, security, and contract requirements.

EDUCATIONAL, CLEARANCE AND CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor's degree (required) or advanced degree (desired) in relevant scientific or engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5 years (10+ years desired) of experience related to aerospace and defense technologies, including government-funded R&D project management and execution.
  • U.S. citizenship with security clearance eligibility (required) or active clearance (desired).

PHYSICAL/WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Engineering activities will be performed in research and manufacturing environment, requires vision and hearing ability to operate machinery with visual and audio alerts, and physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds.

TRAVEL

  • Anticipate 10-15% travel in support of project activities and technical conferences. All travel will be performed under the guidelines of Federal Travel Regulations and/or Joint Travel Regulations.

BENEFITS

401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Matching; Health Insurance & HSA; Dental & Vision Insurance; Company Paid Life Insurance, AD&D and Short-Term; Paid Time Off, Volunteer Time Off; Employee Assistance Program.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
