Bloodworks Northwest is seeking a Senior Building Engineer to oversee day-to-day facilities operations within a healthcare and laboratory environment in Seattle, WA. The role emphasizes leadership, safety, and regulatory compliance as you maintain critical building systems and mentor staff.

You will manage preventive maintenance, coordinate with vendors, and ensure operations meet strict environmental and regulatory standards, enabling Bloodworks to deliver a safe blood supply to the community.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of relevant construction, equipment repair, or building engineering experience.
• Vocational training in Construction & Building Technology or Electrical Plant Maintenance.
• EPA “Universal” license required; HVAC/refrigeration license (06A) or Nonresidential Maintenance Electrical license (07) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor Engineering staff; structure assignments by priorities and skills.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and direct vendors for building systems including HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing.
• Coordinate capital projects with Facilities management and ensure quality within budget and timeframes.

We have a wonderful opportunity for a Senior BuildingEngineer. As a member of the Facilities & Engineering leadership team, provide oversight of the department's day-to-day activities that support the achievement of departmental goals.As Senior Engineer, provide specialized skills, problem-solving abilities, and expertise in the repair and maintenance of building systems, refrigeration, and equipment repair as required in a commercial healthcare and laboratory facility. Use mechanical and critical-thinking skills, along with independent judgment, to ensure strict environmental and regulatory standards are met so that Bloodwork can deliver a safe, secure blood supply to the community. Provide leadership in the training and mentoring of other Engineers.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to: As Senior Engineer:

• Serve as a technical expert in the HVAC/refrigeration field. Troubleshoot, repair, and direct vendors to maintain critical building systems, including commercial heating/cooling, digital building controls, fire systems, plumbing, electrical, and other systemsin a high-rise commercial healthcare facility. Serve as a technical expert and perform maintenance and repairs on freezers, refrigerators, centrifuges, and other laboratory equipment.
• Lead, provide guidance, train, and mentor Engineering staff by structuring assignments according to department priorities, staff skills, and through the use of the automated work order system.
• Meet critical maintenance, repair, and construction timeframes.
• Create efficiencies through planning, managing inventories, and purchases.
• Coordinate vendor maintenance activities and repairs.
• With Facilities management, coordinate capital projects, interact with and provide direction to general contractors and vendors to ensure quality of work and completion within the allocated budget and timeframes. May be responsible for managing inventory and purchasing tools, equipment, and other project materials.
• Perform repairs and alterations to the facility and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation and meet the needs of the organization.
• Document maintenance, repairs, and completed work for inclusion in the equipment database.
• Interpret blueprints and schematics, relay information to others as appropriate.
• Use all equipment and tools appropriately and safely. Follow all safety procedures and other regulatory requirements.
• Rotate on-call responsibility and generally be available on short notice, twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.
• Ensure full compliance with the standards outlined in the Bloodworks Vehicle Safety and Training Policy when operating or riding in company vehicles.
• Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as written.
• Perform other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

• Minimum of five years of relevant construction, equipment repair, or building engineering experience.
• Vocational training in one or more of the following fields (or equivalent), preferred:
• Construction & Building Technology
• Electrical Plant Maintenance

Skilled work experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Electrical
• Fabrication
• Plumbing
• Laboratory / Electronics Equipment
• HVAC
• Mechanics

Specific job skills include, but are not limited to:

• EPA “Universal” license required. HVAC/refrigeration limited energy electrical license (06A) or Nonresidential Maintenance electrical license (07) is highly preferred.
• The ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds throughout a normal day.
• Ability to clearly communicate and understand written and spoken English.
• Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and in restricted spaces.
• Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
• To obtain access to some client facilities, the incumbent may be required to apply for and obtain clearance to access the client property. This clearance process may require the incumbent to undergo additional screening beyond Bloodwork's standard pre-employment screening.
• Required mental activities include continuous use of discretion and teamwork. Required mental activities used less frequently include customer service, independent judgment and/or independent action, interpersonal skills and the ability to read, speak, write and understand English (used frequently); decision making, problem analysis, creativity, mentoring, training, and the performance of basic math (used occasionally); presentations/teaching (rarely).
• Required physical activities include frequent standing, sitting, walking, talking, reaching, hearing, and handling. Required physical activities used occasionally include bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, and repetitive motions of hands/wrists and feet; crawling (used rarely).
• Possess and maintain a driver's license for at least 3 years.
• Valid State Driver's License with acceptable driving record in State of residence.
• Use of a company or personal vehicle for company business requires an acceptable driver's record as defined by the vehicle policy.
• Must meet MVR standards required by Bloodwork's Vehicle Safety and Training Policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• This is a highly regulated position and is subject to meeting various regulatory agency and accrediting body rules and regulations. These may include, but are not limited to, FDA, AABB, CLIA, CAP.
• Telecommuting is not offered in this role.
• Position requires frequent regional travel, constant standing, and rotating on-call status; heavy lifting, extensive close work, extensive computer/viewing monitor work, and substantial overtime performed rarely.
• Ability to work scheduled on-call, holidays, and weekends.
• Ability to work in restricted spaces and outdoors in all types of weather.
• As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to donors and/or patients, the incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies.
• This position has direct exposure to bloodborne pathogens
