Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design, analysis, modification and support of mechanical systems in nuclear plant operations. You will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and plant procedures while contributing to safe, reliable performance.

The role reports to the Manager, Procurement Engineering and is hybrid at Rock Hill, SC (may be hybrid at other US locations). Expect collaboration with cross-functional teams and external regulators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) credential required or beneficial.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical design and analysis.
  • Experience in a regulated environment and knowledge of codes/standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering evaluations, calculations, and analyses of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Develop and review design changes and engineering documents.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance and root cause analysis.
  • Prepare and review procurement specifications and work instructions.
  • Interface with regulators, vendors, and teams to ensure compliance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support staff.
  • Participate in plant walkdowns and operability assessments.
  • Support outage planning, execution, and post-outage reviews.
  • Adhere to industry codes (ASME, NRC, IEEE) and licensing bases.

About The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will provide technical leadership and expertise in the design, analysis, modification, and support of mechanical systems and components for nuclear power plant operations. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and plant-specific procedures, supporting safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.

You will report to the Manager, Procurement Engineering and be located at our Lawerenceville GA, Cranberry Township, PA -or- Rock Hill, SC facility. The position is hybrid; candidates may be able to work hybrid in other Westinghouse locations in the US.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and perform engineering evaluations, calculations, and analyses for mechanical systems, components, and equipment (e.g., pumps, valves, heat exchangers, piping, pressure vessels).
  • Develop, review, and approve design changes, modifications, and engineering documents in accordance with plant procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of mechanical system issues.
  • Prepare and review procurement specifications, engineering change packages, and work instructions.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and ensure compliance.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support staff.
  • Participate in plant walkdowns, system health monitoring, and operability assessments.
  • Support outage planning, execution, and post-outage reviews for mechanical systems.
  • Ensure adherence to industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, NRC, IEEE) and plant licensing basis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (required)
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical system design, analysis, and troubleshooting in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Beneficial
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Experience with equipment qualification, environmental and seismic analysis, and aging management programs.
  • Power Plant experience
  • Familiarity with nuclear plant licensing, modification processes, and configuration management.
  • Proficiency with engineering software tools (e.g., ANSYS, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $85,200 to $106,500 per year.
