Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a seasoned engineer for Morenci, AZ, to review and guide engineering projects, serve as SME on site planning and construction, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. The role involves budgeting support and evaluating AFEs for capital funding, with potential vendor contract oversight.

The ideal candidate holds a degree in engineering with several years of related experience, and demonstrates strong analytical, communicational, and safety-management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline with 5 years of related experience.
  • Master's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline with 3 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering.
  • Ability to analyze information and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skill in managing large/complex Engineering projects.
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.

  • May evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for services and equipment.
  • May represent the site on company sponsored steering committees or task forces.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

What You Will Do
  • Review, investigate, and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects.
  • Manage projects and serve as subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex site planning/construction, expansion, or modifications.
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable processes, practices, and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations.
  • Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas.
  • Develop and evaluate AFE’s (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests.
  • May evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment.
  • May represent the site on company sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams.
  • Perform other duties as required.
What You Bring To Freeport
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering or a related field, OR
  • Master's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skill in managing large/complex Engineering projects.
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification
  • Supervisory Experience
What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $97,500-$138,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
