Job summary

Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking a Sr. Engineer to join the METCON Program at Headquarters near Union Station in Los Angeles. The role leads industrial control system projects, provides technical leadership, and interfaces with Operations, OT, IT, and field teams.

The Sr. Engineer will review designs, manage budgets, and oversee SCADA activities through construction, testing and start-up, while guiding staff and consultants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with eight years’ experience, two at Engineer level
  • Advanced degree in engineering with six years’ experience, two at Engineer level

Job description

There is currently one (1) opening for Sr. Engineer located at Headquarters, adjacent to Union Station.

The Sr. Engineer serves as a member of the Project Management Team dedicated to the Control System Upgrade (METCON) Program. The METCON Program consists of multiple projects across various water treatment plants that directly support the overall modernization of the control systems.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and manage full lifecycle project management for industrial control system initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership, expertise and oversight to technical staff in various disciplines related to industrial control systems, plant technicians, and outside consultants.
  • Coordinate and communicate with Operations, OT, IT, Engineering and Field Technician teams to provide real time support.
  • Review design documents such as specifications, P&IDs, electrical schematics, wiring, plan and shop drawings.
  • Review and prepare labor and materials budgets for all projects.
  • Provide SCADA support and oversight during construction, testing, commissioning and start-up of projects.
  • Leads, schedules, assigns tasks and provides direction to staff while assisting with the development and training.

Schedule:

9/80. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.

Hybrid:

Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or a related field and eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience, of which two years must have been at the Engineer level;

OR

an Advanced degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or a related field and six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience, of which two years must have been at the Engineer level.

Related Field is defined as: Civil, mechanical, electrical, construction engineering, or other related engineering discipline.

Relevant Experience is defined as: Experience with industrial control systems, project management, and budgets.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registration Requirements

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

License(s):

License in good standing as a California Professional Engineer (Required at time of application)
