Qualifications

  • Master’s/PhD or equivalent professional experience in engineering, data science, biomechanics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience working with human performance, biomechanics, sports science, biomedical, or other complex scientific data.
  • Hands-on experience with motion capture, force plates, or other biomechanical measurement systems.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data modeling, and/or machine learning.
  • Strong data visualization and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute human performance data collection, working with motion capture, force plates, wearable technologies, and other measurement systems
  • Develop end-to-end data workflows, including data acquisition, processing, visualization, and analysis of complex biomechanical and human performance datasets
  • Develop models, algorithms, and performance metrics using statistical analysis, time-series methods, and machine learning where appropriate
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical problems across hardware, software, data, and analytical workflows, and build tools that improve the efficiency and reliability of research processes
  • Collaborate across disciplines with engineers, data scientists, and performance practitioners to translate complex research and performance questions into practical technical solutions

Job description

The Joe Gibbs Human Performance Institute (JGHPI) is focused on transforming athlete data into actionable performance insights. We partner with elite athletes and sports organizations to solve meaningful performance challenges through the integration of biomechanics, engineering, data science, and advanced analytics.

Position Summary

As a Senior Engineer, you will work across the full lifecycle of human performance research and technology, from data collection and processing to analysis, modeling, and technical solution development. This is a highly interdisciplinary role for a technical problem solver who can understand challenges end-to-end, move comfortably between experimental systems, data, code, and analysis, and learn new tools and methods as needed. You will work closely with engineers, data scientists, and performance practitioners to develop new capabilities and solve real-world problems in elite sport.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and execute human performance data collection, working with motion capture, force plates, wearable technologies, and other measurement systems

  • Experience with statistical analysis, data modeling, and/or machine learning
  • Strong data visualization and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with signal processing and/or biomechanical data processing
  • Experience developing research software, analytical tools, or data workflows
  • Experience with AWS, SQL, and/or analytical databases
  • Experience with OpenSim or other biomechanical modeling software
  • Experience with machine learning, predictive modeling, or other advanced analytical methods
  • Experience working in elite sport
