Job summary

Smith Engineering, based in the New York City metro area, seeks a Sr. Energy Engineer to advance energy optimization for complex central plant facilities. The role blends on-site work at the Manhattan office with site visits to client locations.

You will design and evaluate energy options, perform audits, and guide ECM implementations. The team emphasizes efficiency, cost savings, and senior-level collaboration with building managers and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5–7 years in the building energy efficiency industry.
• 5+ years of performing energy audits and Retro-Cx projects (Commissioning/Retro-Commissioning).
• Experience in energy conservation measure development, saving, and incentive calculations.
• Familiar with energy modeling tools such as eQUEST, IESVE, or Trane Trace 700.

Responsibilities

• Energy Optimization and Analysis: perform audits and savings calculations using Excel and modeling tools; analyze utility bills to identify consumption and ECM opportunities.
• Technical Evaluation and Testing: conduct field surveys, data collection, and testing for equipment, sequences, and energy calculations.
• Compliance and Design: stay updated on ASHRAE standards and NYC/NYS Energy Code; develop energy management routines for automation systems.
• Client Relations and Coordination: present findings to senior staff and clients; coordinate with vendors for ECM pricing.
