Surge AI is seeking a senior security engineer who will own security end to end across product, infrastructure, and corporate IT. You will work hands-on to fix authentication, manage keys and secrets, and harden internal tooling while collaborating with engineers and researchers from top technology companies.

The role requires 7+ years of production software experience, strong coding and system design skills, and a generalist mindset. Remote-friendly, with travel to collaborate with teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building and shipping production software (5+ with exceptional experience).
• Strong software engineering skills and ability to code and design systems like a fellow engineer.
• Competence across product, infrastructure, and corporate security.
• Generalist capable of owning multiple areas rather than a single slice.
• Early-stage startup experience, ideally as one of the first security hires.
• Comfort working in ambiguity without fixed roadmap or PMs; fix problems directly.

Responsibilities

• Fix authentication and authorization issues across the platform.
• Improve how we manage keys and secrets across projects.
• Harden internal tooling and safely bring off-band tools into the platform.
• Refactor permissioning and pull sensitive capabilities out of admin systems.
• Contribute to core backend engineering work with the team.
• Own security reviews, incident response, and tooling across product, infrastructure, and corporate.
