Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for providing employment advice and counsel to the People & Workplace (HR) team and managing employment claims. The successful candidate will be comfortable working collaboratively in a quickly-changing and complex acquisitive environment with employees in all 50 states.

  • Provide practical legal advice and engage in collaborative problem-solving on various areas of employment law including, but not limited to, wage and hour, workplace conduct, hiring, leaves and accommodations, investigations, disciplinary actions, separations, and employee relations.
  • Analyze, develop and deliver strategic dispute resolution strategies in line with business requirements to reduce risks.
  • Monitor relevant legal developments and trends and, as a result, proactively shape the company’s approach.
  • Participate with Legal and P&W (HR) Teams on developing strategy and methodologies for process improvement that supports continued company growth.
  • Manage employment claims and litigation matters, including internal handling of administrative agency investigations/charges where appropriate.
  • Create materials and conduct training and education for the P&W team on relevant employment law topics.
  • Comfortable acting as project manager where appropriate.
Qualifications
  • JD from a nationally recognized law school.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience as an attorney with a mix of top law firm experience and/or as an in-house counsel ideally for a company with multi state presence. California experience preferred.
  • Strong business acumen, excellent communication skills and the ability to engage across all levels of the company.
  • Self-starter with a healthy sense of urgency, ability to prioritize, handle unanticipated situations effectively and work well under pressure in a dynamic and demanding environment.
  • Comfortable making real time decisions.
  • Proactive and responsive team player who partners effectively with P&W team with varying work styles in a collaborative environment to achieve stated business objectives while minimizing risks.
  • Ability to juggle and progress multiple projects simultaneously utilizing past experience to evaluate potential risks.
