Job summary

Textron Systems in Hunt Valley, MD seeks a Software Safety Engineer III/IV to join a multidisciplined team during the development of complex systems requiring critical safety controls. You will analyze hazards across electrical, mechanical, and embedded software domains.

You will develop system safety architectures, oversee hazard mitigations, and ensure compliance with MIL-STD-882E, DO-178/254, and related standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 5 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to assess software and data interfaces to identify potential failure modes that could lead to hazards.
• Experience or interest in system safety and familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, DO-178/254, and JSSSEHB is a plus.
• Ability to perform hazard analyses on electrical and embedded software systems.
• Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics and understand circuit/interface failure modes.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a multidisciplined team during the development of complex systems with critical safety controls.
• Execute system safety and embedded software safety programs including hazard analysis.
• Develop system safety architectures and oversee implementation and verification of hazard mitigations at system and subsystem levels while ensuring compliance with performance requirements.
