Job summary

Motorola Solutions in West Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer for its Silvus Technologies unit. The role is full-time with a hybrid schedule requiring at least three onsite days weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays).

You will work in R&D reporting to the VP of R&D and contribute to MAC protocols, networking, and security implementations. The position requires a BS in a relevant field, 5 years embedded software experience (or 3 years with an advanced STEM degree),

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years embedded software experience; 3 years with advanced STEM degree.
  • Expertise in C programming and Linux kernel driver development.

Responsibilities

  • Implement software for MAC and mobile ad-hoc networking routing protocols.
  • Develop network management software and web interfaces.
  • Implement security protocols and encryption algorithms.
  • Develop audio streaming and push-to-talk voice applications.
  • Analyze and improve product security to meet regulatory standards (NIST FIPS 140-3, NIAP).
  • Develop and maintain device drivers and BSPs for ARM and RISC-V systems.
  • Customize Linux and scripting for system support.

Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY


Silvus is seeking a full-time Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our Research & Development department, reporting to the Vice President of Research & Development. The position is located at Silvus headquarters in the heart of vibrant West Los Angeles, CA and is on a hybrid schedule, a minimum of 3 days onsite per week is expected. On-site days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.


The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Implementation of the software portion of MAC (Medium Access Control) and mobile ad-hoc networking routing protocols.


  • Network management software and web interface implementation.


  • Implementation of different security protocols and encryption algorithms.


  • Audio streaming and push-to-talk voice application implementation.


  • Analyze and improve product security and robustness to meet certain regulatory requirements such as NIST FIPS 140-3 and NIAP Common Criteria.


  • Implementation of testing software for product performance and reliability testing.


  • Device driver and board support package development and maintenance for both ARM and RISC-V based systems.


  • Linux system customization and scripting.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Computer, or Communications Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant engineering fields.


  • Minimum 5 years of relevant embedded system software development experience; 3 years of relevant embedded system software development experience with an advanced STEM degree.


  • Expertise in C programming and experience in Linux kernel driver development.


  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.


  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.



PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES



  • Masters of Science degree in Electrical, Computer, or Communications Engineering, Computer Science


  • Knowledge and experience of different security protocols and encryption algorithms such as suite of CNSA algorithms.


  • Demonstrated experience with socket programming and various Internet/Ethernet protocols.


  • Understanding of MAC and Networking layer of a communication system.


  • Experience in AMD UltraScale+ MPSoC and Microchip Polarfire SoC BSP support package development.


  • Deep understanding of Internet Protocol Security (IPsec), network protocols, data authentication and encryption


  • Linux Interrupt Service Routine development.



COMPENSATION: $140,000 - $200,000 / annually


The pay range is NOT a guarantee, is based on market research and peer data, and will vary depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
