Leonardo DRS is hiring a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Germantown, MD. This full-time, on-site role requires strong C/C++ and RTOS experience, with responsibilities spanning design, development, testing, and mentoring across hardware/software teams.

The position emphasizes leadership, cross-team collaboration, and the ability to deliver mission-critical, secure radar software in a fast-growing defense technology company. U.S. citizenship and security clearance eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field plus at least 5 years of experience.
• Proficient in C/C++ programming.
• Experience with RTOS and deterministic timing, task scheduling, and priority management.
• Understanding of concurrent/multithreaded programming and synchronization.
• Experience near hardware—interfaces, memory-mapped I/O, debugging hardware/software.
• Familiar with software configuration management, code review, and automated testing.
• Willingness/ability to learn Matlab, Python, and Rust.
• Ability to lead a technical group independently.
• Open to occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, analyze, test, and debug software applications and systems.
• Learn about image/signal processing, real-time, firmware, databases, OS concepts.
• Own outcomes including budgets, schedules, and leadership.
• Communicate clearly with team and customers.
