Job summary

Vivint Smart Home, an NRG owned company, is seeking a senior software engineer to join our Seattle team. You will develop in C and C++ for embedded Linux, work with Yocto/Buildroot, and collaborate on hardware/software integration across the product stack.

This role requires in‑office presence in Seattle on a hybrid schedule (Mon–Thu in the office, Fri work from home). Start remote and transition to hybrid as projects progress, with a strong emphasis on debugging, driver development, and secure,

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience.
• BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field.
• Strong proficiency in C and modern C++.
• Deep understanding of the embedded Linux ecosystem (kernel, device drivers, and the boot chain).
• Hands-on experience building and customizing Linux distributions using Yocto, Buildroot, or similar.
• Hardware debugging with board bring-up and tools (JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes).
• Experience evaluating and integrating BSPs and drivers.
• Experience with Python or Rust.
• Solid understanding of IoT protocols (HTTP, MQTT, JSON, Protobufs).
• Development in Linux environments with cross-compiling and unit testing.
