Job summary

Integrated Solutions for Systems, Inc. seeks a Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead flight software design for next-generation missile systems and UAS.

The role emphasizes leadership and deep expertise in C/C++ and low-level embedded development to drive GNC algorithms and mission logic in real-time environments. The ideal candidate will deliver flight-certified code for DoD programs, steward software architecture, and guide cross-functional teams in secure coding practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
• 15+ years of professional experience in embedded software engineering, with a significant portion in DoD aerospace or missile defense programs.
• Expert-level proficiency in C and C++ (C++11/14/17) for resource-constrained embedded systems.
• Deep understanding of ARM, PowerPC, or RISC-V architectures, memory management, interrupts, and DMA.
• Experience with cross-compilers (GCC, LLVM), Git, and build systems (CMake, Jenkins).
• Familiarity with DO-178C airworthiness certification and RMF requirements for secure software.
• Active DoD Secret Security Clearance required; Top Secret preferred.

Responsibilities

• Software Architecture & Design: Define embedded software architecture for weapon systems and autonomous platforms with modular, scalable real-time performance.
• Embedded Development: Create low-level drivers, middleware, and application software in C/C++ for MCUs, DSPs, and FPGAs.
• RTOS Management: Design RTOS-based solutions using VxWorks, FreeRTOS, or Green Hills Integrity with deterministic behavior.
• Hardware-Software Integration: Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers for HITL testing and timing issue debugging using analyzers and JTAG.
• Flight Control & GNC Support: Develop and optimize EKF, GPS/INS navigation algorithms for embedded targets.
• Technical Leadership: Drive SDLC through DoD milestones; lead code reviews and mentor junior developers in secure coding.
• Protocol Implementation: Develop stacks for MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, CAN, and MAVLink.
