Job summary

Optivolt in San Francisco, CA is seeking an experienced Embedded Firmware Engineer to design and implement firmware for the Optivolt Hub and Balancer, owning features from concept through delivery and collaborating with hardware and software teams to optimize performance and reliability.

You’ll work hands-on with hardware, develop with C/C++ on RTOS, use Python for tooling, and contribute to testing, CI/CD, and hardware-in-the-loop setups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in reliable embedded C/C++ with an RTOS.
• Proficiency with Python for desktop tooling.
• Experience owning features from conception to maintenance.
• Experience with I2C/SPI/UART and wireless networking.
• Ability to develop tests and HIL setups.
• Experience with CI/CD in embedded apps (GitHub Actions).
• Hands-on experience with embedded hardware.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded firmware for the Optivolt Hub and Balancer, including current and next-generation products.
• Own the full lifecycle of new features to maximize device performance and reliability.
• Implement systems to provide better insights and tools for support engineers to remotely assist customers.
• Expand integration and unit test coverage, including new hardware-in-the-loop setups.
• Develop ancillary desktop or embedded software to support development, testing, and production.
• Work closely with hardware engineers and designers on next-generation hardware.
• Provide support to customers when issues are escalated to engineering; some travel may be required.
